lorraine gail sudduth

 

Mrs. Lorraine Gail Sudduth, age 45, of Howell Ln., Young Harris, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Sudduth was born on Aug. 22, 1961 in Forsyth County, GA, the daughter of the late Annie Frix Hamby.  At the time of her death she was employed as a Second Grade Teacher with the Towns County School System.  Mrs. Sudduth was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Sudduth are her loving husband of seven years, Chris Sudduth of Young Harris, two step-children, Jessica Rose Sudduth of Franklin County, GA, Christopher Adam Sudduth of TX, father and mother-in-law, Dewey and Irene Sudduth of Winder, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Curt and Scottie Sudduth of Rex, GA, Trey and Karen Brown of Bethlehem, GA, Mark and Jennifer Sudduth of Statham, GA, Chris and Maria Blackmoore of Statham, Carl Reeves of Jefferson, GA, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday Dec. 26, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chris Scoggins officiating.  Interment and graveside services followed at 2:30 p.m. from the Sawnee View Gardens Cemetery in Cumming, Ga.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

alamrilla (amy) bailey smith

 

Almarilla (Amy) Bailey Smith died at Emory University Medical Center early on Friday, December 29th, after a brief illness.  A resident of Hiawassee, where she pursued her work as a spitiual/psychological advisor, Amy followed a winding path in life, raising three sons, singing as soprano soloist in churches and synagogues in New Orleans and Minneapolis and working her way up to become vice-president of a market research firm in New York City.  Born in Iowa Falls, Iowa in 1930, she married Richard Waggoner in 1951.  The family moves to Camden, Arkansas, then to New Orleans, finally settling in Minneapolis in 1965.  She moved back to New Orleans in 1973 with her sons and 2nd husband James D. Smith, where she served as district sales manager for Avon.  Work with Avon eventually took her to Atlanta and a position as regional manager for the southeast.  While in Atlanta she caught the attention of Simmons Market Research, moving to New York in 1980 to take over their field operations.  She was named a vice-president of the company in 1990, in which capacity she served until 1992.  She then moved to Sautee, Georgia, where she opened a metaphysical bookstore and began the counseling practice that would eventually take her around the world and endear her to hundreds of friends and clients both here and abroad.

She is survived by three sons, Richard Waggoner, of Duluth, Mark Waggoner, of Los Angeles, and Andrew Waggoner, of New York City; two daughters-in-law, Jody and Carrie; three granddaughters, Erin Spencer, Neva Liles, and Sally Waggoner; a sister, Marlene Harper, of New Hartford, Iowa; new nephews and a niece, Jack and Mike Harper, and Karen Neilsen; and her partner Gene Curry, of Blue Ridge.

A memorial service was held at Amy’s home in Hiawassee on New Year’s Day.  The family has established a memorial fund; those wishing to contribute may send donations to PO Box 197, Hiawassee, GA 30546.

norman r. anderson

 

Mr. Norman R. Anderson, age 83, of Young Harris passed away on Monday, December 25, 2006 in the University of Kentucky Medical Center following injuries received in an automobile accident.  Mr. Anderson was born on February 21, 1923 in Chicogo, IL, the son of the late Otto Anderson and the late Signe Hanson Anderson.  He retired from the Rancel Tool and Die Company after over twenty years of service.  He was a veteran of the US Army Air Core of WWII.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Anderson in 1997 and by a son, Norman R. Anderson Jr. in 1968.  Mr. Anderson was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Anderson are his loving wife of eight years, Kathryn Wyss Anderson of Young Harris; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Edward Kasen of Grand Rapids, MI; four step-children, Linda Massee of Greenvile, SC, David Massee of Memphis, TN, Karen Merrill of Shreveport, LA, Janet Bueltel of Naples, FL; one sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Robert Sorenson of Chicago; ;three grandchildren, Jon Kasen, Cindi Bentley and Tim Kasen, five great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 from the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. George Cline officiating.  Special music will be presented by Joann Bond, Tammy Blassingame, Ted and Joy Noelle, Wendall and Loretta Carr.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Family Life Center in Mr. Anderson’s memory.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

ruth moore

 

Mrs. Ruth Moore, age 77, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Monday, December 25, 2006 at Clay County Care Center.  Mrs. Moore was born Sunday, June 30, 1929 in Towns County, GA to the late Terrell Ledford and Lola Berrong Ledford.  She was a member of old Brasstown Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Moore, one brother and ten sisters.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Dale and Twyla Nicholson of Young Harris, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Jeanie and James Lance of Washington, GA; granddaughter, Sasha Quarles of Columbia, SC; granddaughter, Renea Smith of Athens, GA; grandson, Matthew Youngblood of Young Harris, GA, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Perkins and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Music was provided by James Goodwin, Crystal Clinton and Kelley Brewer.  Interment was in Old Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Larry Owens, Gary Owens, Dennis Youngblood, Ronnie Youngblood, Matthew Youngblood, and Shenar Wood.

addie d. arrowood

Mrs.  Addie D. Arrowood, age 96, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on December 22, 2006 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Sam and Rosena (Eller) Dayton in Towns County, GA on July 6, 1910.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Den Arrowood in October 1998.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Della Mae and James Buchanan, Of Hiawassee, GA; a sister, Mrs. Geneva Dills, of Hiawassee, GA; a grandson, Robert Buchanan, of Hiawassee, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ricky Burrell and Rev. Glenville Nichols officiating.  Music was provided by The Spirit Bless.  Pallbearers were: Jimmy Wright, Roy Matheson, Leon Berrong, Warren Bonner, Knox Dayton, and Michael West.  Interment was in Laurel Hills Memory Gardens cemetery.

icy lois beck

 

Icy Lois Beck, age 72, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2006 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Arthur and Allie Matheson Gibson on October 11, 1934 in Clay County, NC.

She is survived by daughters, Vivian Stargel of Tunnel Hill, GA, Sharon Ferrell of San Antonio, TX, Debbie Beck and Dinah Beck, both of Hiawassee, GA; sons, Lonnie Beck of Clayton, GA, Donald Beck of Hiawassee, GA; sisters, Susie Bowen, Lavern Brown, and Drucilla Whitehead, all of Toccoa, GA, Viola Wright and Onoree Roddy, both of Hiawassee, GA and Beatrice Harper of Valdosta, GA; thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with Ronnie Stargel as speaker.
