mr. james l. van horn, jr.

 

Mr. James L. Van Horn, Jr., age 76, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Van Horn was born in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, November 6, 1928, a son of James Lamont Van Horn and Effie Irene Pearson Van Horn.  He and his wife had lived in this area for nine years, moving here from Geneva, Florida.  Mr. Van Horn was past President of Union Park High School, in Union Park, FL; past President of Union Park Little League (10 years); a member of Telephone Pioneers; and a former Lay Leader of Union Park Methodist Church.  He was retired from Southern Bell and was also retired from a secondary job as a residential building contractor.  Mr. Van Horn was a member of Sharp memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving family members include his wife, Willera A. Van Horn, of Young Harris, GA; three children: James Van Horn, III, of Houston, TX; Susan Van Horn, of Orlando, FL; and Mary Jane Van Horn, of Jersey City, NJ; a sister, Irene Peshek, of Dayton Beach, FL; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bob Bone officiating.  Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date at Greenshade Cemetery in Fowltown, GA.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728-9988.

mr. r.b. bradshaw

 

Mr. R.B. Bradshaw, age 84, of Hiawassee, passed away Monday, January 3, 2005 in Chatuge Regional Hospital.

Mr. Bradshaw was born May 9, 1920 in Towns County to the late Raleigh and Lucy (Eller) Bradshaw.  He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and had received the Purple Heart.  Mr. Bradshaw was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Bradshaw in 2000.

Survivors include: daughter, Frances Norton of Young Harris, daughter, Barbara Anderson of Hiawassee, son, William Bradshaw of Hiawassee, son, Jimmy Lee Bradshaw of Loganville, daughter, Reta Joe McKin of Hiawassee, sister, Annie Nation of Hiawassee, sister, Hazel Dover of Hayesville, brother, Edward G. Bradshaw of Hiawassee, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Stiles and Rev. Glen Eller officiating.  Music was by Willie and Nola Jean Nichols, Rita Bradshaw, and Delaine Bradshaw.  Burial was in Boyds Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Michael Anderson, Dale Anderson, Randy Anderson, Jody Norton, Ricky Bradshaw, Robert Bradshaw.  Honorary pallbearers were Lisa Seaborn, Teresa Addis, Jason McKin, Heather McKin and Jimmy McKin.

mr. richard lee curry

 

Mr. Richard Lee Curry, age 75, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, January 06, 2005 following a period of declining health.  He was born to the late Clarence William and Shirley (Finley) Curry on February 3, 1929 in Calhoun County, AL.  He was preceded in death by two brothers Norris Curry and Van Gene Curry.  He was a member of Buford Masonic Lodge #292 F&AM, and Yaarab Temple-Atlanta.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Martha Curry, of Hiawassee, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Janice & Dueaghn Moody, of Hiawassee, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Hunter, of Buford, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Allen and Shirley Curry, of Alburn, GA; brothers, Mr. Billy Curry, Mr. Charles Curry, and Mr. Jerry Curry, all of Anniston, AL; brother, Mr. Ben Curry, of Birmingham, AL; and brother, Mr. Rex Curry, of Dawsonville, GA; sister, Mrs. Clairice Battles, of Oxford, AL; and sister, Mrs. Rita Smith, of Munford, AL; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services were from the chapel of the funeral home at 2 PM on January 8, 2005 with the rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  Pallbearers were Jason Dyer, Roy Ledford, Ernest Gibson, James Hooper, Porter Stallings, and Johnny Garmon.  Music was provided by the Eagle Mountain Quartet.  Masonic graveside services were conducted by Unicoi Lodge #259 F&AM.  Interment was in Macedonia Church Cemetery.
