Mildred
Isabel Martin (Taylor), age 83,
passed away in her sleep from complications of emphysema Saturday,
January 8th,
2011. Born July 10, 1927, in
Philadelphia, PA, Millie was the only child of William and Mildred
Taylor. She attended nursing school at
Presbyterian
Hospital, graduating in 1948. Following
graduation, she joined the US Air force (sic) and, commissioned as a
Lieutenant
was sent to France where she helped build a hospital in Nice. It was there, in 1951, she met and married
Jean Martin. In 1953, a son David was
born, and following the family’s return to the U.S., a daughter, Carol

After an Honorable Discharge from

worked as the Towns County drug and alcohol rehab nurse until retiring

clients, she brought the same caring, capable and compassionate
approach to her
work as she did to all her relationships and pursuits.
After retiring at age 68, Millie
studied energy efficient building techniques.
She then designed and had built a small “Green” home on the
banks of
Dismal Creek, in Hiawassee, Georgia, where she lived out the remainder
of her
life. During her retirement she was
