wyolene fannin hornsby

 

Mrs. Wyolene Fannin Hornsby, age 80, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Habersham House in Savannah, GA.  Mrs. Hornsby was a native of Atlanta, GA, and lived for many years in Hiawassee, GA.

A devoted mother and wife, Mrs. Hornsby served the Lord in numerous church and youth activities.  Throughout her life she sang in church choirs, including those at Dogwood hills Baptist Church in Atlanta, McConnell memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, and most recently, at Skidaway island Presbyterian Church in Savannah.  She was also involved in youth ministries at these churches, including the Youth Mentoring Program at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, and she was active in the Women’s Mission Union for many years.  As a mother of four sons, she spent many years supporting Little League and high school sports and was an avid fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.

Mrs. Hornsby was born Monday, October 11, 1926 in Atlanta, GA to the late John Perry Fannin and Valeria Elliott Fannin.  She preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William Carl Hornsby, Sr.

Survivors include sons: William C. Hornsby, Jr.; Michael P. Hornsby (Bonnie), all of Powder Springs, GA; Timothy L. Hornsby (Janice) of Marietta, GA; Mark T. Hornsby (Debbie), of Savannah, GA; sisters, Melva Kodatt (David) of Hiawassee; and Edith Davies of Lilburn, GA; granddaughters, heather Perry (Matt) and Elliott Hornsby and grandsons Joshua Hornsby and William Hornsby; great grandchildren, J.J. and Madison Perry; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from the McConnell memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee with the Dr. Rudy Patton officiating. 

Interment will follow in Osborn Cemetery.

Visitation were held Tuesday, January 23, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made to Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church Youth Ministry Fund, 500 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411 or McConnell memorial Baptist Church Youth Ministry, PO Box 235, Hiawassee, A 30546.

brenda sue padilla

 

Mrs. Brenda Sue Padilla, age 58, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on January 15, 2007 following a period of declining health.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Vincent Padilla, Sr.  She was born to parents, Homer and Sarah (Roberts) Padilla in Gwinnett County, GA on July 1 1948.

She is survived by her mother, Sarah m. Roberts; daughter, Crystal Padilla; sons, Tim and Evan Marks; step-sons, Mark, Matthew and Mario Padilla; brother, Randy Roberts; sisters, Marilyn Sharpton and Pat Reynolds; thirteen grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at 11 a.m. from McConnell memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  Pallbearers were Ron Lewis, Harold Smith, Bryant Ivey, Odis Shead, Jim Whelchel, Richard hanks, Amos Hill, and clay Woolfolk.  Interment was in Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery. In Snellville, GA.

caleb wade hogsed

 

Mr. Caleb Wade Hogsed, age 89, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Friday, January 19, 2007.  He was a lifelong resident of Towns County.  He was born to the late Luther and Edna (Wood) Hogsed on December 13, 1917.  He was a WWII Veteran serving in the European Theater.  He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Kenneth W. Hogsed; a brother, Mr. Ralph Hogsed, and a sister, Faye Nichols.  He was a member and deacon of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Mrs. Lois Hunter Hogsed of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jerry Greenwood of Hiawassee, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Lynn Hogsed and Rex and Wilda Hogsed, all of Hiawassee, GA; a daughter-in-law, Debra Hogsed; three grandsons, Adrian, John, and Zachary Hogsed:    five granddaughters Rebecca, Ashley, heather, Samantha Hogsed and Sarah Greenwood; one great-granddaughter, Abeni Hogsed; a sister and brother-in-law, Blon and Jerry Gordon of Blue Ridge, GA; four brothers and  sisters-in-law, Ward and Blon Hogsed of Hayesville, NC, Herman and Betty Hogsed of Lynchburg, OH, Willis Hogsed of Kennesaw, GA, max and Charlene Hogsed of Hiawassee, GA; a sister-in-law, Clara Bell Hogsed of Hiawassee, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. David Berrong and Rev. Steve O’Neill officiating.  Music was provided by The Moss Quarter.  Pallbearers were Adrian and Josh Hogsed, Kirt, Heath, and Levi Kimsey, and Travis Waldroup.  Honorary pallbearer was Zachary Hogsed.  Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

doris newman morris 

 

Doris Newman Morris, age 81, of Little Rock and Young Harris, and a former resident of West Palm Beach, FL, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, January 14, 2007.  She was born May 16, 1925 in Kankakee, IL, a daughter of the late Ray W. Newman, Sr. and Melissa Miller Newman.  At the age of four she was taken to Florida to live with her grandparents in Riviera Beach.  Doris graduated from palm Beach High with the Class of 1942.

She was employed at Morrison Field during World War II and later was employed by Stetson Sprodi, County Tax Collector and David L. Reid, County Tax Assessor, retiring in 1978.  During her working career, she became a licensed real estate agent and certified real estate appraiser.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Trevor Morris and was associated with him at Morris Plumbing in West Palm Beach.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Florence Mae Hazel and a brother, Ray W. Newman, Jr.  She was a loving wife and mother.  Her memberships included the Country Neighbors, Fat Quarters of Blairsville, the American Quilters Society, and she was a life member of Palm Beach Chapter #41, OES in West Palm Beach.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Morris of little Rock and a host of friends.

A celebration of her life was held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2007 in the Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William Tolleson officiating.  Additional services well be held in the spring in her beloved Young Harris, GA.  In lieu of flowers, lasting memorials may be made to Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches, P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, Florida, 32206 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Suzanne would like to thank Dr. Richard Sarrell, who was her physician in Blairsville, GA and Dr. Claudia Tolleson, Dr. Tena Murphy, Dr. Mariann Harrington, and Dr. Gail McCracken and their staffs for their expert and loving care provided to her mother.
