Mrs. Virginia Daniels Pels, age 93, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Monday, January 29, 2007 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, GA.  Mrs. Pels was born Saturday, December 20, 1913 in Cook County, IL, to the late Julius Penningroth and the late Jenny Pathael Penningroth.  She was a homemaker and had been preceded in death by her husband, John Pels.

Surviving family members are her children: Rosemary, Mitze, Dennis, and Robbie.  Also loved by 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 12 noon at Krause Funeral Home in Milwaukee, WI on Saturday, February 3, 2007.  Visitation was held beginning at 10 a.m. before the funeral services.  Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.

Krause Funeral Home of Milwaukee, WI was in charge of arrangements there;  Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of local arrangements.

ward j. hogsed

 

Ward J. Hogsed, age 84, of Hayesville died Thursday January 25, 2007 in a Towns County, GA hospital.  A native of Towns County, he had lived in Clay County since 1982.  He was the son of the late Luther and Edna Wood Hogsed.  He retired in 1982 after 28 years with General Motors Parts Division.  Ward was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Blon Ledford Hogsed; two sons, Monroe Hogsed of Lithia Springs, GA and Jim Hogsed of Lawrenceville, GA; a sister, Blon Gordon of Blue Ridge, GA; three brothers, Max Hogsed of Hiawassee, GA, Willis Hogsed of Kennesaw, GA, and Herman Hogsed of Cincinnati, OH; and six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2007 in the Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. David Berrong officiating.  Burial in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers: Rex, Fred, Josh, and Adrian Hogsed, and Kirt, Heath, and Levi Kimsey.  The family received friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville where the body was until placed in the church at the service hour. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Ward J. Hogsed to the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Fred Hogsed, 2496 Clovis Drive, Hiawassee,  GA 30546.

james edwin (jim) bertrand

 

Mr. James Edwin (Jim) Bertrand, age 75, of Young Harris, GA, succumbed to prostate cancer Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at his residence.  Mr. Bertrand was born Thursday, August 6, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiania to the late George and Ruth White Bertrand.  He graduated from Butler University, Served in the U.S. Air Force 1951-55, and retired from Rhone Poulenc as Human Resource Director.  Mr. Bertrand was a former member of the Lions Club and a member of the Chatuge Golfing Association.  He moved to his area 11 years ago from Brunswick, Ga.  Mr. Bertrand was a member of McConnell memorial Baptist Church, where he was very active, most recently serving on the Personnel Committee, President of his Sunday School Class and as a master Usher.

Survivors include: wife, Gail Bertrand of Young Harris, GA; son, Ken Bertrand of Buford, GA; son, Adam Withrow of Clayton, GA; sisters & brothers-in-law, Betty Griffin of Broomfield, CO, Mary and Jim Ebbinghaus of Barrington, IL, Nancy and Morley Fentriss of Boulder, CO; brother-in-law, Phil and Muriel Sousa of Townsend, DE; many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with the Dr. Rudy Patton and Rev. Bob Ghiottio officiating.
