mr. joseph “joe” hanson

 

Mr. Joseph “Joe” Hanson, age 74, of Young Harris, GA, formerly of Lawrenceville, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 in Union General Hospital.  Mr. Hanson was born Wednesday, January 20, 1932 in Gwinnett County, GA to the late Leonard Hanson and Eula Whiting Hanson.  He was a member of Notla Baptist Church, a Deacon and a Korean War Army Veteran.  He was a member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Survivors include: wife, Helen Hanson of Young Harris, GA; daughter, Zanza Hunter of Avondale Estates, GA; sister, Annette Roberts of Lula, GA; sister, Lorene Clark; sister, Lois Phillips both of Flowery Branch, GA; step-daughter, Cynthia Robertson of Lawrenceville, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 11 AM from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. James Paul officiating.  Music was provided by the Notla Baptist Church Choir and Rev. James Paul.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.  Serving as pallbearers were: Rick Moore, Scott Curry, Stacy McCall, Jerry Phillips, Horace Hunter and Allen Hembree.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Notla Baptist Church or America Cancer Society.

mrs. phyllis o’neal

 

Mrs. Phyllis O’Neal, age 85 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2006 following a brief illness.  She was born to the late Mark and Annie (Smith) MacEwan on July 21, 1920 in Cambria County, PA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Robert H. O’Neal in 2001.  She was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church for 15 years.

She is survived by daughter, Marie O’Neal of Valdosta, GA; daughter, Mary Keeney of Vero Beach, FL; sons, Jimmy O’Neal and Ritchie O’Neal both of Hiawassee, GA; six grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 6, 2006 at 11 AM from McConnell memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  Pallbearers were Jerry Anderson, Neal Cody, Bryant Ivey, Virgil Price, Ralph Turner and Clay Woolfolk.  Interment was in Osborn Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee entrusted with arrangements.
