mr. thomas edward fortenberry

 

Mr. Thomas Edward Fortenberry, age 61, of Fortenberry Road, Young Harris passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Fortenberry was born on April 8, 1943 in Union County, the son of the late Edgar Fortenberry and the late Laura Jarrard Fortenberry.  He had been employed with Alltel Telephone Company with over twenty-eight years of service and had also been employed with Jim Young Construction Company for several years.  Mr. Fortenberry was a member and deacon of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Fortenberry are his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Carolyn Sampson Fortenberry of Young Harris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Jeff Gurley of Young Harris, Angie and John Burch of Hiawassee; four grandchildren, Sarah and Laura Burch, Jaryd and Jordyn Gurley, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Special music was presented by the church choir and Merle Fortenberry.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Bob Collins, Bud Hughes, Merle Fortenberry, Curtis Holloway, Evan Hughes and William Silvey.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Steve Holloway, Allen Nichols, Tommy Flanagan, Hoyt King, Kenny Stroud, Jerry Jenkins, Jerry Hood, Junior Turpin, Bud Holcomb, Bob Chaille and Dale Lunsford.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

ken farmer

 

Mr. Ken Farmer, age 46, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Chatuge Regional Hospital.

Mr. Farmer was born November 6, 1958, in Towns County, GA.  He was employed by Gibson’s Dental Design as a certified lab Technician.  Mr. Farmer was a member of the North Mt. Zion Church of God.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Caldwell Farmer.

Survivors include: his wife, Kim Farmer of Hiawassee, GA; parents, Winston and Diris Farmer of Hiawassee, GA; son, Ryan Farmer of the home and daughter, Cortney Farmer of the home; sister, Patti Farmer Gresham of Hiawassee, GA; paternal grandmother, Ethel Farmer of Toccoa, GA; step-brother, Greg Howell of Alpharetta, GA; father-in-law, Herbert Allen of Hiawassee, GA; brother-in-law, Mark Allen of Hiawassee, GA; niece, Amber Allen; nephew, Matthew Allen; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held February 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. from North Mt. Zion Church of God with Rev. Raburne Wilson officiating.  Music provided by the Raburne Wilson family and Gary Taylor.  Pallbearers were Kenny Rogers, Michael Anderson, Terry Ledford, Johnny Pyle, Mike Lane, Tony Shook, Grady Matheson and William Watson.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at North Mt. Zion Church of God Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

marty kimsey

           

Mr. Marty Kimsey, age 40, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident.

Mr. Kimsey was born April 23, 1964, in Towns County, GA.  He was a carpenter and a U.S. Navy Veteran having served on the USS Nassau.  Mr. Kimsey was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Tammy Derochie Kimsey of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Lauren Nichole Kimsey of Hiawassee, GA; parents, Bruce and Beatrice Kimsey of Hiawassee, GA; brother, Jeffrey Matthew Kimsey of Hayesville, NC; sister, Kim Shook of Hiawassee, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 4, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Shook, Rev. Ricky Burrell and Rev. David Berrong officiating.  Music was by Kirk Kimsey, Rita Bradshaw and Judy Waldroup.  Pallbearers were William Derochie, Forrest Derochie, Sherman Rogers, Daryl Moore, Mitchell Anderson, Ricky Shook and Justin Dale.  Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery in Hayesville, NC.

mrs. phyllis m. usher

 

Mrs. Phyllis M. Usher, age 84, of Hiawassee, GA and Tavares, FL passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at her home in Tavares.

Mrs. Usher was born Monday, January 17, 1921, in Benton County, Indiana to the late Clarence Lee and Sue Campbell Rothrock.  She had lived part-time in Hiawassee for the past 35 years.  She was a former resident of lake Worth, FL.  She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lake Worth.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Usher, of the home; daughter, Pamela Andrews, of North Ridge, CA; and son, Dennis E. Usher of lake Worth, FL; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services were held Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  Music was by Ralph Nichols.
