mrs. evelyn mae stokeley

 

Mrs. Evelyn Mae Stokeley, age 83, of Sugar Branch Lane, Young Harris, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2005 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Stokeley was born on June 15, 1921 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Homer Childers and the late Ella Vonschriltz Childers.  She was a member of the Institute For Continued Learning at Young Harris College.  Mrs. Stokeley was a member of the Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Surviving Mrs. Stokeley are loving husband D. Beryl Stokeley of Young Harris, one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Don Cordier of Blairsville, two sisters, Esther Charlesworth of St. Augustine, FL, Grace Carter of Dayton, OH, one grandson and wife, Timothy and Clare Cordier, one great grandson, Cole Cordier, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 from the Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Travis Adams officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Humane Society Mountain Shelter in Mrs. Stokeley’s memory.

william i. chenault, sr.

 

William I. Chenault, Sr., 76, of Young Harris and formerly of Atlanta, died February 5, 2005.  Mr. Chenault had a lengthy career with AT&T and retired after 32 years as a division engineer and was an active volunteer with the Red Cross.  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Chenault; son and daughter-in-law, William I., Jr., and Beth Chenault; daughter and sons-in-law, Beth and Paul Stephenson, Bonnie and David Ashmore, Jennifer and John Murray; grandchildren, Lindsay, Lee, and David Chenault, Amy and Emily Stephenson, Marae, Molly Grace, and Lucy Ashmore, Kelly, Jake, and Katie Beth Murray; and niece, Nan Graves-Goodman.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or to the Sharp memorial United Methodist Church, Bill Chenault Bus Fund, 1114 Main St., Young Harris, GA 30582.  Online tributes may made at www.me.com.  A memorial service was held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 11 o’clock at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. mrs. helen wilson tucker

 

Mrs. Helen Wilson Tucker, age 91, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005 in Gilmer Nursing Home in Ellijay, GA.

Mrs. Tucker was a native of Brevard County, FL< and had been preceded in death by her husband, William Andrew Tucker, Jr.  She moved to Blairsville in 1999 from Ocala, FL, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Surviving family members include three sons: Melvin W. Tucker, of Lansing, NC, Kelvin L. Tucker of Young Harris, GA, and Vernon Andrew Tucker of Orange Springs, FL; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Graveside services were held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 2 p.m., from Christmas Cemetery in Orlando, FL.  The family received friends at Union park memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Orlando for one hour prior to the service.

mr. james earl walker

 

Mr. James Earl Walker, age 86, of Hiawassee, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Cedelia H. Walker in 2001.

Mr. Walker was born September 5, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA to Frank and Jimina Laferty Walker.  He was a WWII U.S. Air Force veteran and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.  He was retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a Major, and also retired from Sears and roebuck as a draftsman.  Mr. Walker was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels in Dekalb and Towns Counties for 25 years.  He moved to Towns County in 1990 from Dekalb County, and was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Patricia Walker, Jr. of Ellijay, GA; sister, Florence Simpson of St. Louis, MO; grandsons, Caleb Walker of Athens, GA, and Joshua and Lori Walker of Mountain View, CA.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Patty Ryle-Clay officiating.  Music was by Mary Ann Fox.  Pallbearers were Wistar Harmon, Bill Lanier, Bill Madsen, Josh Walker, Caleb Walker and James E. Walker, Jr.  Burial was in Laurel Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

mazelle maney hedden

 

Mrs. Mazelle Maney Hedden, age 79 of Young Harris, GA passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2005 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Marlor and Mary (Nicholson) Maney on January 18, 1926 in Towns County, GA.  She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mr. Henry Hedden of Young Harris, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Paul Gourley, of Blairsville, GA; son, Mr. Donald Henry Hedden, of Seattle, WA; brother, Mr. Wilbur (Bill) Maney, of Tignell, GA; sister, Mrs. Roberta Copeland, of Hiawassee, GA; two grandchildren, Emmalyn and Henrietta Dyer, both of Blairsville, GA.  A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Kay, Rev. Bob Kerry, and Rev. Fred Whitley officiating.  Music was provided by the family.  Pallbearers were John Cooper, Paul Gourley, Clay Dotson, Doug Davenport, Jack Hall, and Richard Hanks.  Honorary pallbearers were Charles Adams, Max Barlow, Mike Hedden and Steve Holmes.  Interment was in Macedonia cemetery.

mr. don pinyan

 

Mr. Don Pinyan, age 79, of Oakmont Drive, Hiawassee passed away on Monday, February 14, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Pinyan was born on December 12, 1925, in Fulton County, GA, the son of the late Ed Pinyan and the late Pauline Huggins Pinyan.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force of WWII.  He was a member of the Appalachian Trail Conference, the High Pointers Club and was a volunteer fireman.

Surviving Mr. Pinyan are his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Mildred Price Pinyan of Hiawassee, two sons and daughters-in-law, Sandy and Barbara Pinyan of Smyrna, Jeff and Janice Pinyan of Martinsburg, W. VA., one daughter, Sandra Pinyan of Marietta, one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Beverly Pinyan of Hartwell, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Chris Livingstone of Cherry Log, Annette and John Linier of Dunwoody, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Appalachian Trail Conference in Mr. Pinyan’s memory.
