james ralph ledford

 

James Ralph “Chewing Gum” Ledford, age 72, of Hiawassee, Georgia, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at his home.

A native of Clay County, N.C., he had lived in Hiawassee for most of his life and was a U.S. Army Veteran.  Mr. Ledford was a poultry farm worker and had attended the Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church in Hayesville, N.C.  He was the son of the late William Bill Ledford who died in 1989 and was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry F. Ledford and Roel Junior Ledford; and three sisters, Nellie Rhinehart, Maedean Mills and Nova Lee Nix.

He is survived by his mother, Lillie Hodsed Ledford of Hayesville, N.C.; one brother, William Harold Ledford of Hayesville; two sisters, Pauline Turner and Barbara McCutcheon, both of Hayesville; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at the Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church in Hayesville.  The Rev. Bill Dyer, Rev. Kiffer Ledford and Rev. Curtis Ledford officiated.

Townson Rose Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

mr. david ashton boorn

 

Mr. David Ashton Boorn, age 27, of Cleveland, GA, formerly of Hiawassee, GA, passed away February 11, 2004.

He was born May 3, 1976 in Fulton County, GA.  Mr. Boorn was a student teacher in the White County School System, and the youngest Premier instructor for the Georgia Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Surviving Mr. Boorn are his parents, Frank and Teresa (Tidwell) Boorn of Hiawassee, GA; one sister, Danielle Joanna Boorn of Dunwoody, GA; grandfather, Mr. Malcolm Boorn and grandmother, Mrs. Gloria Tidwell.  A number of friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home, with Rev. Les Connell, Rev. Harry Alderman, and rev. Ken Fuller officiating.  Music was provided by Joan Ghiotto.  Pallbearers were: Andrew Olsen, Jeremy Pickett, Michael Ziglin, Eric Ziglin, Michael Yaun, and Michael Schwartz.  Interment was in the Laurel Hills Memory Garden Cemetery.

clarence moss

 

Mr. Clarence Moss, age 91, of Hiawassee, GA., died on Wednesday, February 13, 2004 in Chatuge Regional Hospital.

Mr. Moss was born February 9, 1913 in Towns County, a son of the late William H. and Rhoda (Garrett) Moss.  He was a retired farmer and a member of Bell Scene Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for over fifty years.  Mr. Moss was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Moss.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Kate Moss of the home; children, Zearl Moss of Hiawassee, GA., Latane Youngblood of Lawrenceville, GA., Lanier Moss of Lawrenceville, GA., Lillian Mull of Hayesville, N.C. and Lavonda Peevy of Buford, GA; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at 2:00 pm from Bell Scene Baptist Church with Rev. Clark Moss, Rev. Gary Moss and Rev. Loys Waters officiating.  Music was by Bell Scene Baptist Church Choir.  Pallbearers were Curt Moss, Greg Moss, Eddie Moss, Danny Bryant, Jonathan Mull and Tim Burch.  Honorary Pallbearers were Jack Moss, Decatur Bradshaw, Jr., and Stephen Russell.  Burial was in the Church Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, GA., was in charge of the arrangements.
