Mrs. June Clara Rushton, age 69, of Gainesville, formerly of Young Harris, died Friday, February 27, 2004 at New Horizon’s North Nursing Home.

Mrs. Rushton was born on June 15, 1934, in Towns County, a daughter of the late Blake and Elma Jackson Bryson.  She was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.  Mrs. Rushton was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Rushton in 1980.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Sarah Rushton of Gainesville, GA; sister, Betty Jenkins of Young Harris, GA; brother, Bill Bryson of Commerce, GA; grandchildren, Luke Rushton, McKenna Rushton and Mary Kate Rushton.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 1, 2004 at the Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Jack Lamb officiating.  Music was provided by Brad Knight.  Pallbearers were Jerry Jenkins, Tracy Jenkins, Tommy Jenkins, Gene Coker, Gary Moore and Bob Nichols.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, GA., was in charge of arrangements.

cobell hughes

 

Mr. Cobell Hughes, age 68, of Dockery Creek Road in Young Harris, Georgia, formerly of Fannin County and Calhoun, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 in the Blue Ridge Health Care center, following an extended illness.  Before his retirement he was employed by Mohawk Carpet in Calhoun.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Coyer and G.C. Hughes; a sister, Jessie Slaughter and a daughter, Rhonda Morris.  Mr. Hughes was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Hughes is his wife, Margie Hughes of Calhoun; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Gary Dockery of Young Harris; five step children, Genie Nix of Calhoun, Wayne Davis of Dalton, Dennis Davis of W., Steve Davis of Calhoun and Terry Davis of N.Y; three sisters, Ruby Stanley of Dial, Daisey Lee Hyde of Calhoun and Bertie Stanley of Ball Creek; four grandchildren, Brandi Dockery, Travis Dockery, Amber Morris Cardenas and Barriana Morris; twelve step grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 27, 2004 at the Sugar Hill Baptist Church in Fannin County with the Rev. Dexter Dockery and Rev. Paul Wehunt officiating.   Special music was presented by Roy Neal.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Randy Hughes, Travis Davis, Jim Hyde, Mitchell Stanley, James Stanley and Tex Dockery.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Jack Stanley, Steve Stanley, Charlie Slaughter and Justin Hyde.  Interment followed at the church cemetery.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of arrangements.

Andrew Wimpy

 

Mr. Andrew Wimpy, age 82, of Wimpy Farm Road in Young Harris, Georgia passed away on Monday, February 23, 2004 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Wimpy was born on August 3, 1921 in Union County, the son of the late Carter Wimpy and the late Mary Emma Duckworth Wimpy.

Before his retirement Mr. Wimpy was employed with the Towns County Road Department for over fifteen years.  He was a lifelong resident of Towns and Union Counties.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of WWII and was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Wimpy is his loving wife of twenty two years, Maggie Headrick Wimpy of Young Harris; six daughters, Donna Kay Killian of Blairsville Brenda Wimpy of Young Harris, Darlene Herr of Young Harris, Joni Losell of Blairsville, Wanda Allen of Blairsville, Diana Cox of Blue Ridge, GA., one son, F.C. Wimpy of Commerce, GA; one sister, Nola Plott of Young Harris; one brother, Esco Wimpy of Young Harris; six grandchildren, Sharon Wimpy, Meghan Herr, Misty Teague, Michael Hughes, Joseph Hughes and Natalie Teague; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Hood officiating.  Special music was presented by San Ensley and Teresa Gay.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Danny and David Kuykendall, Harold Copeland, Brownie Brown, Stacy Collins, Patrick Murphy, Max Puett and Kevin Teague.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Buck Kuykendall and Alvin Gibson.  Interment followed in the Wimpy Family Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.
