herbert “hub” ivester

 

            Herbert “Hub” Ivester, age 91, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Monday, February 23, 2009 at his residence.

He was a native of Clay County, NC< attended South Hayesville Church of god and was the son of the late Ulyss Fanning and Fannie Lou Sherlin Ivester.  Hub was a retired builder, sawmiller and grist-mill owner and operator.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Janette Mills Ivester, who passed away in1979; his son, Kenneth Ivester in 2008; a brother, Noland Ivester and a step-daughter, Carolyn Moore. 

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Simonds Ivester; one daughter, Frances Teems and her husband Glen of Young Harris, GA; one daughter, Angel Ledford and her husband, Dwayne of Young Harris, GA; a step-son, Joseph Tucker of Macon, GA; one brother, Clay Ivester of Warne, NC; one sister, Eloise Carroll and her husband Verlin of Navarre, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Marilyn “Mert” Ivester; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 11 AM, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Pine Log Baptist Church in Brasstown, NC.  Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. jack Simonds officiated.  Interment was held in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers were grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers were Condie Hemphill, Buford Ledford, Max Reece, Jim Smith, Paul Gibson, Carl Gilbert and Cowboy Jordan.

The family received friends from 6 PM to 8 PM, Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC.

boneta marie ledford

 

            Mrs. Boneta Marie Ledford, age 80, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away in Macon at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.  Mrs. Ledford, a native of Moreland, OK, was born November 21, 1928; she is the daughter of the late Otis & Viola Young Meeks.  She was a retired librarian.  Survivors include: husband, Larry Garnet Ledford, sons, Dr. Michael (Mary Beth) Ledford, Jonesboro, GA, Kenneth Neal (Jan) Ledford, Clarksville, GA, daughter, Linda (Gene) Bell, Fernandina Beach, FL, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, sister, Barbara Webb, Tucker, GA, brothers, Leland Meeks, Young Harris, GA, Warren Meeks, St. Marys, GA, nieces & nephews.   

Funeral services were held at 2 PM, Sunday, March 01, 2009 at Nicholls Baptist Church in Nicholls, GA, with burial in the Meeks Cemetery.  Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

fred oliver, jr.

 

            Mr. Fred Oliver, Jr. age 55 of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at his residence.  Mr. Oliver was born Thursday, June 4, 1953 in Cobb County, GA to the late Loy Fred Oliver, Sr. and Lorraine Lloyd Oliver of Hiawassee. 

Survivors include: wife, Gena Oliver of Hiawassee, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Drew and Ashley Oliver of Hiawassee, GA, daughter, Kelly Oliver of Kennesaw, GA, sisters, Anne Mitchell, Grace Howard and Margaret Oliver all of Hiawassee, GA, several nieces and nephews.

            No services are planned at this time.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the family.

truett lawson arrowood

 

            Mr. Truett Lawson Arrowood, age 70 of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at his home.  He was born to the late Virgil Lawson and Hattie (Nichols) Arrowood on December 26, 1938 in Towns County, GA.  He is survived by two daughters, Debra Wheeler and Dinah Aten, both of Hiawassee, GA; a son, Darrell Arrowood, of Dahlonega, GA; one sister, Elzie Patterson, of Hayesville, NC; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Memorial services were held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 2 PM from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Claude Thomas officiating.  Music was provided by Clifford and Vicki Griffin.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

edward bunnell

 

            Mr. Edward Bunnell, age 90, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Union General Hospital.

            Edward was born Wednesday, October 2, 1918 in Madison County, IN to the late John Earl Bunnell and the late Agnes Rachael Kellenburger Bunnell.  He was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by brothers, John Bunnell and Don Bunnell, sisters, Betty Wagoner, Ellen Lowe, Bee DeLong and Ebbie Mason.

            Ed’s life was full of his love for Christ, God’s word, family and friends.  He had a life full of accomplishments.  Ed was the first Eagle Boy Scout in White Co., IN< boxed in the Golden Glove tournament, a WWII Army Air Corp. Capt. And pilot in both war theaters, a 1949 civil engineering graduate of Purdue University, and a member of Masonic Lodge.  He was a career civil engineer working across the US with Sverdrup and Parcel (now Jacob’s Engineering). Notable projects included the Illinois toll Road and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel.  He later worked as project manager for construction of the Hart Suspension Bridge and the Hart and the J. Turner Butler Blvd. Expressway Systems in Jacksonville, FL, as well as the Florida Keys Bridges. 

Survivors include: wife, of 62 years, Charlotte Bunnell of Young Harris, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Jeff and Linda Bunnell of Jacksonville, FL, son & daughter-in-law, Dan and Marsha Bunnell of Greenville, SC, daughter & son-in-law, Diane and Bill Flynn of Gulf Breeze, FL, 8 grandchildren and a great grandson.

            Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 2 PM from the Sharp memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Darris Baker and Rev. Brian Bunnell officiating.  Music was provided by Pam Leslie.  Serving as pallbearers were: grandsons, Brian Bunnell, Mark Bunnell, Matt Bunnell, Sean Flynn, Mick Flynn and Mike Felger.

            Military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

            The family received friends at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church from 1-2 P.M., Wednesday, march 4.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Sharp memorial United Methodist Church Library or Towns County Food Pantry.
