Betty Stephens McComb, of Flint, Michigan, age 72, died Saturday, February 21, 2004 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at the Swartz Funeral Home with Pastor Randy W. Poyorena officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. McComb was born in Young Harris, Georgia on February 18, 1932, the daughter of the late Dayton and Ora Stephens.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Thed; one sister, Helen Powell.

Mrs. McComb married Paul McComb on March 18, 1958.  She enjoyed taking care of her family and grandchildren.  Surviving is her husband, Paul; sons, Douglas of Grand Blanc, Robert, of Davison and Donald of flint; daughter-in-law, Janice Neurohr of Gaines; grandchildren, Heather and Ryan; great-grandson, Garrett; brother, Jimmy Stephens, of Young Harris, GA; five sisters, Audrey Wade, of Northhampton, MA., Ruby Lemmings, of Cartersville, GA., Barbara Shook, of Young Harris, GA; Linda Holder, of Rome, GA., Charlotte Hyde, of Covington, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

mrs. jeanette chastain

 

Mrs. Jeanette Chastain, age 65, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Thursday, march 11, 2004, at Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Chastain was born May 22, 1938, in Towns County.  She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.  Mrs. Chastain was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Louise Chastain in 1962, her father, Hershel Edward Underwood in 1985 and her husband, Phillip Chastain in 1999.

She is survived by: her mother, Gladys Underwood of Hiawassee, GA; sons, Rondy Lee Chastain of Hiawassee, GA, David and wife Melissa Chastain of Brasstown, NC, Brad and wife Kim of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Nanette and husband James Dean of Cleveland, GA; sisters, JoAnn McClure and Nora Lee Garrett both of Hiawassee, GA; eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, march 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. James Lee officiating.  Music was Claudette Griffin.  Pallbearers were Darrell Garrett, Edward Garrett, James Dean, Mark Moxley, Jamie Campbell and Rondy Chastain, Jr.  Honorary Pallbearers were T.J. Garrett and Pete Rodriquez.  Interment was in Hayesville Presbyterian Cemetery.

rayford henderson

 

Mr. Rayford Henderson, age 74, of Henderson Rd., Young Harris passed away on Friday, march 12, 2004 in the Brookwood Nursing Center in Decatur, TN following an extended illness.  Mr. Henderson was employed as a school bus driver with the Union County School System for several years before his retirement.  He was preceded in death by three brothers: Fletcher, Don and Bly Henderson; and by two sisters: Mary Lou Klassen and Susie Cordell.  Mr. Henderson had attended the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Henderson are one brother, Randall Henderson of Young Harris; three sisters and brother in law, Maxine and Harold Sims of Roswell, GA, Ina M. Bible of Roswell, Regina Morgan of Ringold, GA; nieces, Yvonna Smith and Gail Weaver both of Blairsville, Angie Carter of Chattanooga; nephews, Mike Bible of Ringold, Ricky Klassen of Chattanooga, brother in law, Tommy Cordell of Ringold, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 15, 2004 from the Funeral Home Chapel with the rev. R.L. Martin officiating.  Special music was presented by Moe and Gail Weaver, Heather and Nelle Henderson.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Tommy Cordell, Edward Mashburn, Moe Weaver, Jeff Henderson, John Weaver, Tracy Henderson and Bill Weaver.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

mary richardson hooper

 

Mary Richardson Hooper, age 84, of Hiawassee, GA., passed away on March 11, 2004 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Charles Richardson.  She was born to the late Inman and Ella (Greenway) Richardson on October 18, 1919 in Elbert County, GA.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn and Larry Kimsey of Hiawassee, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Regina Hooper of Auburn, GA; sister, Martha Moore of Simpsonville, SC; sister, June Howell of Elberton, GA; eight grandchildren, Melissa Kimsey Stewart, Michael Kimsey, Amber Janus, Andrea Dean, Matthew Janus, Mark Janus, Jamie Knight and Jennifer Butler; three great grandchildren, Kimsey Stewart, Bryson Butler and Austin Dean.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 14, 2004 from McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Rudy Patton officiating.  Music was provided by the Church choir.  Pallbearers were Jerry Moore, Adger Moore, Danny Richardson, Barry Sanders, Doug Davenport and Matthew Janus.  Interment was in Osborn cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jimmie McConnell, age 78, of Young Harris, GA., passed away Thursday, march 11, 2004.  She was born to the late William and Jessie Blon (Crain) Kimsey on February 18, 1926 in Towns County, GA.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. William Kimsey and Dr. John Kimsey.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Lyle McConnell, of Young Harris, GA; sister-in-law, Suzie Kimsey and Joyce Kimsey, both of Young Harris, GA; and sister-in-law Naomi Beal of Andrews, NC; nieces, Linda Pamplin, of Duluth, GA; and niece, Carol Baxter, of Smyrna, GA; also Vernon Kimsey, of Gainesville, GA a number of great nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, march 14, 2004 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Troy Acree and the Rev. Rudy Patton officiating.  Pallbearers were Barney Pedigo, J.C. Berrong, Doug Nicholson, Neal Cody, Roy Stamps, Jimmy Kimsey.  Honorary Pallbearers were Dwayne Phillips and Scott Trull.  Interment was in the Old Union Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.

Norma Jane Clayton, age 72, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Sunday, march 7, 2004 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.  She was born to the late James and Margie (King) Carnegie in Fairfield, CT on November 7, 1931.  She is survived by sons, Mr. Steve Clayton, and Mr. Billy Clayton, both of Blairsville, GA.  There will be no funeral services at this time.
