fred harvey wall

 

Mr. Fred Harvey Wall, age 67 of Ramey Mtn., Hiawassee, GA, formerly of Deltona FL, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2007.  Fred was born on October 28, 1939 in Warrick, NY, the son of the late Fred Bryce Wall and the late Lois Bender Wall.  Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Turkey throughout the Vietnam War.  Fred received a Bachelors degree from Franklin and Marshal College in Pennsylvania and a Masters degree from the University of Miami in Florida.  Fred enjoyed collecting coins, gardening, camping, boating, observing nature and reading.  Fred’s main passion was following the stock market.  When Fred lived in Homestead, Fl, he owned and maintained a lime grove.  Fred also had been a member of the Cotillian Dance Club and the Civitan Club.  Fred was a teacher for over 30 years and taught Junior High School English and History and coached various sports.  For most of his career, Fred taught at Redland Middle School.  Fred attended Sharp Memorial Methodist Church.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Susan Warren Wall of Hiawassee; one daughter, Elizabeth Wall Bowers of Miami, FL; one son, Mark Edward Wall of Hayesville, NC’ 6 grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna, Kayla, Lena, Sophia, and Bryce; son-in-law, Anthony Bowers and daughter-in-law, Annette Wall.

A memorial service will be held at their home.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may e made to the American Cancer Society in Fred’s memory.

william patrick cooney, jr.

 

Mr. William Patrick Cooney, Jr., age 81, of Lakeview Acres, Hiawassee passed away on Saturday, march 31, 2007 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mr. Cooney was born on September 6, 1925 in Chatham County, GA, the son of the late William P. Cooney Sr. and the late Mary E. Wilson Cooney.  He retired in 1983 from the Kaiser Agriculture Chemical Company as a Train Engineer with over twenty years of service.  He was the Head of Disaster Relief of the American Red Cross for Chatham County, a member of the Hiawassee Gun Club, AARP, and also an Exercise Instructor in Savannah area schools.  Mr. Cooney was a member of immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Surviving Mr. Cooney are his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Justine Cooney of Hiawassee; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Crest Cooney of Clewiston, FL and Patrick and Harriett Cooney of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Jack Witt of Pmebroke, GA and Mary Phillips of Jesup, GA; one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Webster Pebler of LaFayette, IN; three grandchildren, Emily Whitson, Justin Phillips and William Cooney, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 5 p.m. from the Immaculate of Mary Catholic Church with Father George Klooster officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Chatuge Nursing Home of Hiawassee in Mr. Cooney’s memory.  The family will meet with friends following the services.

marie brown

 

Mrs. Marie Brown, age 81, of Still Meadow Ct., Young Harris passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Brown was born on October 3, 1925 in Louisburg, TN, the daughter of the late Willie Wall and the late Bessie Allen Wall.  She retired from the State of Tennessee Government after several years of services.  She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Clark in 2005.  Mrs. Brown attended Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Brown are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharee and Gary Precanico of Hollywood, FL; one grandson, Scott and Ellen Stephens of Young Harris, three great-grandchildren, Austin, Alexis and Skyler, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville TN with the Rev David Wall officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Brown’s memory.

melva kodatt

 

Mrs. Melva Kodatt, age 78, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007 at her residence.  Mrs. Kodatt was born Monday, March 18, 1929 in Fulton County, GA to the late John Fannin and Valera Elliott Fannin.  She had lived most of her life in the Atlanta area before moving to Hia-wassee in 1989.  She was a member of Hayesville Church of Christ and was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Susan Kodatt and sister, Wyolene Hornsby.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She will be missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include: husband, of 60 years, David Kodatt of Hiawassee, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Gena and Fred Oliver of Hiawassee, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Kaye and Steve Sosebee of lake City, GA; son & daughter-in-law, John and Tammy Kodatt of Columbia, TN; sister, Edith Davies off Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer Ellis, Drew Oliver, Kelly Oliver, Kylie Kodatt, Kinsey Kodatt and Keyton Kodatt; great-grandson, Bryan Ellis; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 1 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Forrest Chapman officiating.  Music was provided by George and Janice Barber and Steve Sosebee.  Interment was in Osborn Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Gary Davies, Greg Davies, mark Hornsby, Mike Hornsby, Noah Jones and Clint Morris.  Honorary pallbearers were: Bill Hornsby, Jr., Tim Hornsby and Matt Perry.

blanche palmer hogsed

 

Mrs. Blanche Palmer Hogsed, age 92, of Hiawassee, GA (formerly of Atlanta, GA and Hayesville, NC) passed away on march 21, 2007 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Alex and Lizzie McClure Palmer on August 27, 1914 in Clay County, NC.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Donald B. palmer; daughter, Carolyn Palmer; brother, Guy Hogsed, sister, Addie Ledford; and granddaughter, Shawn-Rhea Palmer.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Palmer of Hiawassee, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Lois Palmer of Hiawassee, GA; brothers, Lake and France Hogsed, both of Hiawassee; foster granddaughters, Debbie Phillips and Connie Carter; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Pallbearers were Jeff Scott, Ike Waldroup, Jimmy Hogsed, Rudy Roach, and David Phillips.  Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Renolds and Leif Ekeberg.  Music was proved by Claudette and matt Griffin and Jeannie Miles.  Interment was in Enotah Cemetery.
