mr. rodney l. carlisle

 

Mr. Rodney L. Carlisle, age 50, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his home following an extended illness.  He was of the Baptist faith.  He was a native of Tampa, FL, and worked as a brick and block mason in northeast GA.  He shared the love of Jesus by distributing a replica of the picture of his Savior.  He helped beautify First Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA by doing some of the brick work.  His masonry skills can be seen in many home and businesses throughout Georgia, Florida and New York.  He is survived by his parents, Pat and Iona Carlisle of Hiawassee, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Emily P. and Mark Beavers of Calhoun, GA; brother, Roger Carlisle, of Tampa, FL; sister, Camille Ragsdale, of Tampa, FL; grandsons, Ethan and Evan Beavers of Calhoun, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Graveside services were held on Monday, April 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry Spiva officiating.  Interment was in Osborn Cemetery.   Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

mr. alfred barrett

 

Mr. Alfred Barrett, age 94, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2005 in Chatuge Regional Hospital following an extended illness.  He was born to the late Thomas and Henrietta (Dover) Barrett on July 31, 1910 in Towns County, Ga.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mae Barrett, and sons, Mr. Guy Barrett and Mr. Logan Barrett.  He was a lifetime member of Union Hill Methodist Church.  He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Fannie Rogers of Murphy, NC; Mrs. Shirley Nichols of Hiawassee, GA; sons, Mr. Odis Barrett and Mr. James Barrett, both of Hiawassee, GA; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 10, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Fuller officiating.  Music was provided by Mrs. Patsy Daniel.  Pallbearers were Jerry Nichols, Kenny Rogers, Charles Land, Archie Chastain, Wesley Barrett, and Steve Barrett.  Interment was in Burch Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

mr. lloyd james broshears

 

Mr. Lloyd James Broshears, age 61, of Swanson Road, Young Harris passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Broshears was born on May 9, 1943 in Boonville, IN, the son of the late Gurley Broshears and the late Gurtha Forston Broshears.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army and retired in 1981 as an E-7.  While in the Army he received the national Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Over Sea Bars, Expert (Rifle-M14), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Fame, Army Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster), Good Conduct Medal (6 awards).  He was Sgt. With the City of Savannah Police Dept. and was with the Dept. of Defense at the Hunter Army Airfield.  He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., a member of the Unicoy Masonic Lodge #259.  His favorite sport was deer hunting at which he was skilled.  He was preceded in death by a son, Grant Broshears and a brother, Harold Broshears.  Mr. Broshears was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Broshears are his loving wife of ten years, Nancy Garland Broshears of Young Harris; four sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph R. and Carolyn Broshears of Cerritos, CA, James F. and Norma Broshears of Blue Ridge, SC, Gary E. and Cassie Broshears of Young Harris, Danny B. and Donna Broshears of Pickens, SC; step son, Tim and Debbie Shook of Young Harris; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Tommy Brown of Celestine, IN; two sisters-in-law, Donna Broshears of Chandler, IN, and Johnnie Foster of Hiawassee; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie and Katie Broshears; step grandchildren, Nikki, Chrissy, Ben, and Tim Broshears Jeffrey and Tonya Shook; step great grandchild, Lara Wardlaw; several uncles, nieces, nephews, best friend Jimmy Hines of Newburg, IN, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 10, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lester Sutton and Rev. Jimmy Hogsed officiating.  Special music was presented by Herbert Teague, Teddy Holbrooks and Angie Burrell.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Buddy Garrett, Frank Gunter, Dennis Ledford, Gilbert Hand, Rick Brown, Harold Ray Broshears, Lynn Mauldin and Cliff Brown.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Hines, Paul Smith, Aud Deyton, and George Slagle.  Interment followed in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery, with Unicoy Lodge conducting Masonic graveside rites and the Army Funeral Detail from Ft. McPherson conducting military honors.
