Mrs. Mardelle “Mardee” Therrel, age 69, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Monday, April 11, 2005 at her home following an extended illness.  She was born to the late Roy and Nannie (Noe) Baker on July 21, 1935 in Wayne County, OH.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Robert “Bobby” Therrel in 1994.  She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Cary Butler, of Dacula, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and David Akin of Lawrenceville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Alexander and Cyndi Therrel, of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, Bo Saunders and Taryn Butler, both of Dacula, GA Seth Akin and Elise Akin, both of Lawrenceville, GA; Jerry Therrel, Tommy Therrel and Ashley Therrel, all of Hiawassee, GA; one niece, Stacy Dileo, of Tucker, GA.  Memorial services were held on Friday, April 15, 2005 at 1 p.m. from McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Rudy Patton officiating.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to McConnell Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 235, Hiawassee, GA 30546.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

helen rowland cox

 

Helen Rowland Cox, age 72, of Seminole Lane, Lexington, NC died Sunday, April 17 at her home after an extended illness.  Memorial services were held Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, conducted by Dr. Jim Wagner and Dr. Denny Sobesan.  Inurnment was in Church Columbarium.

She was born January 3, 1933 in Towns County, GA to Rufus Alexander Rowland and Lula Melton Rowland.  She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and retired from Davidson County Cancer Services.  She was a member of her church choir, the Lexington Music Club, Davidson County Homemaker Extension, and Professional Homemakers Association.  She served as President of the Lexington Community Concerts in 1990-1991, and was involved with Friends of the Theater.  She was also a member of the American Association of University Women, and Zeta Tau Alpha.

Surviving are: spouse, William Howard Cox of the home; son, Phillip Howard Cox of Raleigh, daughter, Carol Cox Tiktin, and husband, Ross Michael Tiktin of Port Washington, NY; grandchildren: Alex, Brett, and Eric Tiktin, and Victoria and Willow Cox; sister, Susie Rowland Miles of Hiawassee, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Music Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 586, Lexington, NC 27293 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1100-C Stratford Road, Winston Salem, NC 27104.

bonnie lee johnson

 

Mrs. Bonnie Lee Johnson, age 66, of Dixie Lane, Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Johnson was born on November 2, 1938 in Muskegon, MI and moved to Hiawassee in 1999 from Essexville, MI, the daughter of the late Elmer Ojala and the late Grace Anway Ojala.  Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.  Surviving Mrs. Johnson are three children, Larry and Robin Johnson of Williamson, MI, Belinda Gravette of Alabama, jack Michelle Johnson of Scottville, MI and 8 grandchildren.  No services are planned at this time.

mrs. joy s. hall

 

Joy S. Hall, age 58 of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away Monday, April 11, 2005 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.  Joy’s death was the Peace at the end of a long battle with illness.  Joy was born in Penn Yan, New York on September 1, 1946 to Thelma and John Strowbridge.  She made her home with her husband Dudley Hall in Hiawassee, GA for the past 6 years.  Joy attended Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, NC.

Survivors include: Husband, Dudley Hall; son, William Hall of Dallas, TX with his wife Kelli and daughter Grace; daughter Jenny Hall of Atlanta, GA; brother, Franklin Strowbridge of Plantation, FL; sister Joan Meyer of Wharton, NJ; along with many nieces and nephews.

 

Services were held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, NC at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2005.  Father John Rice officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will be accepted in Joy’s name.
