Mrs. Marie Lillian Hook, age 87, of Hiawassee, GA, died, Monday April 19, 2004 in Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Hook was born May 30, 1916, in Baltimore, MD a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Brandt.  She was of the Lutheran Faith, and was a homemaker.  Mrs. Hook moved to this area six years ago from Florida.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hook.

Survivors include: sons, William Hook, Jr. of Baltimore, MD and Robert Hook of Hiawassee, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ron Kotchenreuther of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, David Kotchenreuther, Donna Ferrara, Shelly Swam and Jennifer Hook; great-grandchildren, Ryan Kotchenreuther, Kyle Kotchenreuther, Krista Marie Ferrara, Andre Joseph “AJ” Ferrara and Jeffrey Swam.

Memorial services were held Friday, April 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Houska.

ella shelton ledford

 

Ella Shelton Ledford, age 81, of Hiawassee, GA passed away Saturday, April 24, 2004 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Solid Brice and Nannie (Douglas) Shelton on July 31, 1922 in Halifax County, VA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ethern Ledford in May 2003.

Survivors include brother Mr. Theo Shelton of Graham, NC; brother Cecil Shelton of Novato, CA; sister Ollie McPherson of Snow Camp, NC; sister Ethel Gunter, of West Palm Beach, FL; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Ledford and Darence Ledford both of Burlington, NC; Clarence Ledford of Hiawassee, GA; and Garnett Ledford of Blairsville, GA; sisters-in law, Eva Cothern of Murphy, NC; Ruth Ledford of Hayesville, NC; Donnie Wood of Young Harris, GA; and Maggie Crane of Hiawassee, GA.  A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Music was provided by Rita Bradshaw & Dara Ledford.  Interment was in the Pine Grove cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

barbara rumrill powell

 

Barbara Rumrill Powell, age 91, of Hiawassee, GA passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2004, following a period of declining health. 

She was born to the late Martin and Bertha (Claflin) Rumrill on December 21, 1912 in Hampden County, MA.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Nanine and John Case of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Jeanette Zeis, of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Sreven Abele, also of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

A celebration of life to be held at a later date.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

peggy sue smith

 

Mrs. Peggy Sue Smith, age 51, of Young Harris, GA passed away April 18, 2004 in Chatuge Regional Hospital.  She was born on September 13, 1952 in Cherokee County, NC to Mary Ruth (Sparks) Sampson and the late Troy Waymon Sampson.  She was preceded in death by her father in 1991. 

Survivors include her mother, Mary Ruth Sampson, of Young Harris, GA; husband, Mr. Bobby Smith, of Young Harris, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Audrey & Jeff Mitchell, of Young Harris, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Gregory & Marie Smith of Young Harris, GA; sister & brother-in-law, Judy & Larry Smith, of Young Harris, GA; sister & brother-in-law, Amy & Britt Marcell, of Young Harris, GA; three grandchildren, Ashley Sue, Tiffany and Vanessa Mitchell, all of Young Harris, GA.  A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on April 20, 2004, with the Rev. Ricky Rogers and the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Music was provided by the Troy Phillips Family.  Interment was in Cornerstone Baptist Church Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

brooke wilson milam

 

Mrs. Brooke Wilson Milam, age 25, of Hiawassee, GA, died, Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Hiawassee, GA from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Milam was born February 2, 1979, in Oxnard, CA, and had lived in Towns County all her life.  She was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Survivors include: her husband, Nemo Milam of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Jaylyn Winter Milam of Hiawassee, GA; father and step-mother, Bobby and Debbie Wilson of Hiawassee, GA; mother, Alisa Bursey of Hiawassee, GA; brother, Brian Wilson of Hiawassee, GA; maternal grandparents, Dr. Don and Barbara Bursey of Hiawassee, GA.

Memorial services were held Sunday, April 25, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  Military honors were provided by the United States Navy.

Mr. Herman Allen, age 77, of Hiawassee, GA, died, Thursday, April 22, 2004, in Chatuge Regional Hospital.

Mr. Allen was born February 3, 1927, in Towns County, a son of the late Dillard and Zora (Eller) Allen.  He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include: daughters, Brenda Goughnour of Canton, OH and Pamela Jackson of Hiawassee, GA; son, Tommy Allen of Canton, OH; sisters, Dolly Foster of Hiawassee, GA and Lacy Palmer of Kentucky; brother, Willie Allen of Cornelia, GA; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sunday, April 25, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the home of Pamela Jackson with Rev. Charles Maney, Jr. officiating.
