mildred elizabeth daniel

Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Daniel, age 89, of ivy Log Gap Rd. Young Harris passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Daniel was born on January 14, 1917 in Gwinnett County, GA.  She is the daughter of the late Leonard Higgins and the late Jessie Jones Higgins.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty nine years, Truett Daniel in 2004, a son, Roger Daniel in 1991, and a granddaughter, Kim Daniel in 2000.  Mrs. Daniel was a member of Suwannee First Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Daniel are one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Lucille Daniel of young Harris; two sisters, Dale Wilson of Canton, Ga., Martha Lawrence of Mayesville, GA; one brother, Harold Higgins of Lexington, GA; six grandchildren, Liz and Terry Franklin, Renee and Perry Branyon, David Daniel; Robert and Leslie Daniel, Mary and Jeff Fortenberry, Jeff and Billie Daniel; fourteen great-grandchildren, Shannon and Derek Richards, Jessica and Crystal Hassan, Logan and Houston Daniel, Daniel, Ashley and Emily Franklin, Morgan and Jordan Fortenberry, Joshua, Bailey, and Jonah Daniel, Parker and Coleson Daniel, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday April 29, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Mountain View Funeral home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Seay officiating. Special music was presented by Wayne Morgan, Nell Henderson, Heather Henderson, Tim, carol, Jacob, and Amber Renshaw.   The following gentlemen served as pallbearers David Daniel, Robert Daniel, Jeff Daniel, Jeff Fortenberry, Perry Branyon, and Terry Franklin.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were,  Logan, Houston, Parker, Josh, Coleson, and Jonah Daniel, Derek Richards and Daniel Franklin.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of the arrangements.  You may sign the family guest book and send condolences on line at www.mountainviewfuneralhome.com.

paul garrett

 

Mr. Paul Garrett, age 94 of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006 at his home.  Mr. Garrett was born Wednesday, December 27, 1911 in Towns County, GA to the late Samuel and Ellafair (Wheeler) Garrett.  He was a member of North Mt. Zion Church of God.  Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lowe Garrett.  Survivors include: son & daughter-in-lad, Rex and Sandra Garrett of Hiawassee, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Knox and Brenda Garrett of Hiawasee, GA; sister Geneva Anderson of Hiawassee, GA; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the North Mt. Zion Church of God with Rev. Glen Eller and Rev. Raburne Wilson officiating.  Music was provided by Glen and Sheila Eller, Doc L. Moreland, and the Wilson Family.  Interment was in Boyd’s Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Rodney Underwood, Ronnie Ledford, Troy Lowe, C.J. Nichols, Monroe Ledford, and Doc L. roberta s. persick

 

Mrs. Roberta S. Persick, PhD, age 81, of Hiawassee GA, passed away in her home Sunday, April 23, 2006 ending her battle with cancer.  Roberta was born September 26, 1924 in St. Louis, MO, ;the only daughter of late Robert and Viola Stokes.  She was raised in Missouri and received her BS from Southeast Missouri University, AM from the University of Missouri, her MFA from New York State University, and her PhD from the Ohio State University.  She taught at universities in Louisiana, North Dakota and North Carolina, finally retiring in 1992 as a Professor of Art from Jacksonville Florida.  Roberta moved to Hiawassee in 2001 with her husband William (Bill) Persick, where they continued their art in their home ceramics studio in the woods.  She was an active member of Mountain Presbyterian Church, where she was Secretary of the Presbyterian Women and exhibited her servantas heart by volunteering on the Fellowship and Christian Education committees.  Roberta served her community by illustrating the native plants in the recent GA Mountain Research & Education Centers brochure.  Surviving Roberta are her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, William Persick of Hiawassee; her only son Sterling Persick and daughter in-law Debbie Persick of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; her only daughter Leigh Adams and son in-law Mark Adams of Duluth GA; her 4 grandsons Clay Adams, Kyle Adams, Chase Adams, and Cody Adams.  Roberta was a full body donor to The Medical College of GA in Augusta so there was not a graveside service.  A memorial service was held Thursday April 27th, 11am at her home church Mountain Presbyterian in Blairsville, GA, with Rev. K. Travis Adams officiating.  She was a lover of music and wanted this to be a celebration of her life through a variety of instruments and her favorite sons and traditional hymns.  In lieu of flowers, she would prefer any contributions to be made to one of the following passions of her heart: Her love for the Lord via Mountain Presbyterian 2945 Young Harris Highway, Blairsville GA 30512 A cure for Cancer via The American Cancer Society.  Her passion for protecting endangered plants via The Georgia Mountain Research Center, 2564 Georgia Mountain Exp. Sta. Rd. Blairsville, GA 30512 and noted for Roberta Persick Bloodroot memorial Garden. Her enjoyment of art and music via The John C.
