melvin james hunter

 

Mr. Melvin James Hunter, age 98, of Swanson Rd., Young Harris, GA passed away on Tuesday, April 27,2 004 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing home following an extended illness.  Mr. Hunter was born on Sept. 25, 1905, the son of the late William Hunter and the late Mae Rhendia Ledford Hunter.  He was a lifelong resident of Towns County.  Mr. Hunter was a member and deacon of Trackrock Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Hunter are his loving wife of sixty six years, Ruth Swanson Hunter of Young Harris, one daughter, Leota Hamilton of Young Harris, four sons and daughters in law, Rev. Harley and Geneva Hunter of Young Harris, Herman and Frankie Hunter of Murphy, Earl and Edith Hunter of Lilburn, GA, Steve and Katherine Hunter of Hiawassee, Step daughter in law Darlene Chastain of Young Harris.  Twenty grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, twenty great great grandchildren.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 30, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home Chapel with the Rev. Wade Plott and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Special music was presented by the Trackrock Quartet.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Stanley Hunter, Randy Hunter, Ricky Rogers, Matthew Hunter, Nichalas Hunter and Jacob Hunter.  Serving as honorary pallbearer was Tommy Chastain.  Interment followed in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. alvin l. holcomb

 

Mr. Alvin L. Holcomb, age 70, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2004 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Holcomb was born in Cobb County, Georgia, on Monday, June 26, 1933, a son of the late Thomas Virgil Holcomb and Violet Lucille Nicholson Holcomb.  He lived for many years in Decatur, GA, before moving to Union County, GA following retirement in 1988.  He is of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby, of their home; a sister, Margaret Sue Sprayberry, of Douglasville, GA; three brothers: Virgil Holcomb, of Hillsboro, GA; Earl Holcomb, of Mableton, GA; and Gerald Holcomb, of Douglasville; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 2 P.M., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Homer Wilson officiating.  Special music was presented by L.D. and Irene Buchanan.  The following gentlemen were selected as pallbearers: Michael Holcomb, Jake Holcomb, Steve Holcomb, Bob Holloway, Brian Sprayberry, and Hubert Plott.  Burial took place in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.
