Mr.
Talmadge James Hughes Jr., age 45 of Old Gumlog Rd., Blairsville passed
away on
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Hughes was
born
on Jan. 23, 1954 in Towns County, the son of Lillian Dyer Hughes and
the late
Talmadge James Hughes. He was a lifelong
resident of Union County. He was a
loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Nathan
Clifford Silvers. Mr. Hughes was a
member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Hughes are his loving wife of nine years, Linda Sue Hughes of
Blairsville,
mother, Lillian Hughes of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law,
Krystal and
Calvin Kitchens of Blairsville, one step-son, George Eric Silvers of
Blairsville, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Michael
Wright of
Blairsville, Joan Gillispie Hughes of Blairsville, seven grandchildren,
Katelyn, Josh, Austin, Becky, DeLayn, Nathan Chase and Christian, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. R.L. Martin, Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. B.L.
Anderson
officiating. Special music was presented
by Ben, Libby and Angie Burrell and Jimmy Thompson.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers,
Charles King, Michael Stroud, Lamar Dyer, Eric silvers, Cody Gibson,
J.M.
Grizzle, Michael Wright and David Dockery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Tony Guy, Dustin Gillispie,
Jim
Buchanan and Paul Brown. Interment
followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family met with friends at the funeral
home on Wednesday evening after 6 p.m.

Mr.
George Grady Thompson, age 56, of Blairsville, GA, passed away
Thursday, April
29, 2010, in Blairsville.
Mr.
Thompson was born in Hiawassee, GA, on Saturday,
December 12, 1953, a son of the late Robert Thompson and the late
Nannie Lou
McClure Thompson. He lived in Canton, GA
for 18 years and moved to Blairsville in 1988.
Mr. Thompson was an employee of the Union County School system. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in
death by his sisters: Barbara Jean Sosebee and Ruth Miller; and
brothers,
Willard Thompson and Leroy Thompson.
Surviving
family members include his wife, Darlene Thompson, of Blairsville; sons
and
daughters-in-law, Kyle and Tabetha Thompson, of Canton; Grady and Joyce
Thompson
of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Marty Dyer, of
Blairsville;
and son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Christy Thompson, also of
Blairsville;
sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Dwayne Taylor, of New Castle,
PA;
brothers and sisters-in-law:
Earnest and Linda Thompson, Fred and Joanne Thompson, and Jimmy
and Judy Thompson, all of Blairsville; sisters and brothers-in-law,
Becky and
Kenneth Pickelsimer, and Lena and Billy McCollum, all of Blairsville;
and
sister-in-law, Llewellyn Thompson, of Canton, GA; Grandchildren: Trish,
Nikki,
Lynette, Christopher, Kamiya, Kalen and Ashley Thompson; Shauna and
Josh Dyer;
Kevin and Ashley Walker; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held
Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral
Home,
with Pastor Jerry Helton and Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Special
music was
presented by The Burrell Family. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kyle Thompson, Grady
Thompson, Perry
Thompson, Marty Dyer, Kalen Thompson, and Josh Dyer. Burial
was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation
with the family was held at the
funeral home on Friday, April 30, 2010, after 3 pm.

Mr.
Philip
Harold Hancock age 72 of Admiral Point, Hiawassee passed away on
Wednesday,
April 28, 2010 in the Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Mr. Hancock was born on June 26, 1937 in
Oglesby, IL, the son of late Philip Hancock and the late Irene
Kaczynski
Hancock. Mr. Hancock retired from
General Electric/KAPL with over thirty-five years of service. He was a veteran of the National Guard. He enjoyed wood working, sports, coin
collecting, fishing, camping and nature.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Pike and a
brother, Roger
Hancock. Mr. Hancock was a member of St.
Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving
Mr. Hancock are his loving wife of forty-seven years, Marie Chinnici
Hancock of
Hiawassee, two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip Dennis and Alice
Arledge-Hancock of Cumming, GA, Steven and Jo Ellen Hancock of
Woodstock, GA,
one sister and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Toni
Hancock of
Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Judith Hancock of Stevens Point, WI, Howard and
Ruth
Hancock of Bonduel, WI, victor and Carol Hancock of Sparta, WI,
brother-in-law,
Edward Pike of Gainesville, FL, five grandchildren, Nick, Drew, Megan,
Vika and
Zhenya. Many other relatives and friends
also survive.
A memorial
service will be held at a later date at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church
with Father Richard Wise officiating. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be
made to
St. Vincent De Paul Society c/o of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church or to
The Rathbun Center in memory of Mr. Hancock.

Minta
Wells Everton, age 87, of Hiawassee, GA passed away April 29, 2010 in
Chatuge
Regional Hospital.
Minta was
born in London, KY, a daughter of the late Felix and Allieann
(Sparkman)
Wells. She moved to Hiawassee in 1984
from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Minta was
preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Llewellyn Everton on April
20, 2010,
and a son, Kenneth E. Everton on April 17, 2010.
Survivors
include a son, Frank R. Everton of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and a daughter,
Debra
Everton Akin of Micanopy, FL, brother, Kenneth Wells and sister, Maye
Wells
both of Somerset, KY, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren,
and one
great great grandchild.
No services
are planned at this time.

Funeral
services for Jeanette Nicholson Chastain, age 77, of Clarkesville, were
held on
Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 11 AM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel. Rev. Steven Gilreath and Rev. Larry Bryson
officiated with burial following the service in Enotah Cemetery in
Hiawassee.
Mrs.
Chastain passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 following an
extended illness.
Born in
Towns County on April 9, 1933 in Towns County, Mrs.
Chastain was the daughter of the late Boyd and Monteree Garrett
Nicholson. Mrs. Chastain was employed by
Clarkesville
Mill and the she was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Chastain is
preceded in death by a brother M.L. Nicholson.
Survivors
include her husband Terrell Chastain of Clarkesville, daughters and
sons-in-law
Joann and Donald Teal, Joyce and John Cross, and Janice and Richard
Justus,
daughters Debbie Nix and Sharon Roach all of Clarkesville, sons and
daughters-in-law Terry and Cyndi Chastain of Demorest, Tommy and Lisa
Chastain
of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Greg and Amber Chastain of Mt. Airy, brothers
Noel,
Kenneth, Lowell, and Gary Nicholson all of Hiawassee, sister Jackie
Gilreath of
Canton, Ohio, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous
nieces and
nephews.
