alberta myra tompkins denton

 

Albert Myra Tompkins Denton, age 87, of Hiawassee, GA passed away at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home on May 2, 2004.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grady Denton and two sons, Stuart Lee Denton, and Jeffrey Delbert Denton.  She was born to the late Mary Elizabeth (Chase) Tompkins and Delbert Henry Tompkins of Peekskill, NY on August 11, 1916.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Elizabeth Denton, of Hiawassee, GA; one sister, Mary E. McDonald of Yorktown Heights, NY; one brother, Delbert Tompkins, Jr. of Cortland Manor, NY.

The family moved from Garrison, NY to Hiawassee, GA in 1971, and built and operated the Hiawassee Motel and Restaurant from 1972 to 1975.  Mrs. Denton was a loving mother and homemaker and a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, NC.

Funeral services were held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, NC on May 7, 2004 at 4:00 pm with the Rev. John Rice officiating.  Graveside services were held on May 8, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Old Mother Church Cemetery in Robbinsville, NC.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, P.O. Box 677, Hayesville, NC 28904.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

lorraine foster

 

Mrs. Lorraine Foster, age 79, of Hiawassee, GA, died, Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.

Mrs. Foster was born February 10, 1925, in Denver, CO a daughter of the late James Luther and Carrie Mae Melton but had lived in Towns County most of her life.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Foster; daughter, Brenda Martin; brothers, Henry Melton and James Melton; a sister, Donnie Williams.

Survivors include: son, Billy Foster of Dolores, CO; sisters, Ethel Lee Barrett of Hiawassee, GA and Marie of Canton, OH; brother, Oswald Melton of Marietta, GA; half sisters, Nova Jo Kimsey and Audrey Nichols of Hiawassee, GA, and Meridith Fortenberry of Blairsville, GA; half brother, Elzo Nichols of Marietta, Ga.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Dye officiating.  Music was by Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  Pallbearers were Odell Garrison, Dennis Taylor, Denver Taylor, Lane Thomason, Lynn Mauldin and Graham Bell.  Interment was in the Osborn Cemetery.

grovie mcclure plott

 

Grovie McClure Plott, age 89, of Young Harris, GA passed away May 8, 2004 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Thomas C. and Leila (Justice) McClure on May 7, 1915 in Towns County, GA.  She was a member of Bald Mountain Chapter #349 O.E.S., Young Harris, GA and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Harold Plott, three sons, Thomas Earl Plott, William Mark Plott, and Trannis J. Plott.  She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Ervin Chastain, of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Janice & Grover Smith, Jr., of Young Harris, GA; daughter-in-law, Shirley Smith of Ticker, GA; sons & daughters-in-law, Hubert & Geraldine Plott of Young Harris, GA; Horace & Yvonne Plott, of Young Harris, GA; brother & sister-in-law, Charles & Ruth McClure, of Blairsville, GA; sister, Myrtle Trulove, of Ashville, NC; sister & brother-in-law, Mildred & Eugene Plott, of Blairsville, GA; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three additional grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, may 11, 2004 at 11 a.m. from Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating.  Interment was in Cornerstone Baptist Church cemetery.   Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in Charge of arrangements.
