john andrew “andy” shook

 

Mr. John Andrew (Andy) Shook, age 101, of Airline Rd., Young Harris passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mr. Shook was born on Oct. 5, 1904 in Towns County, the son of the late Elisha Shook and the late Lou Watkins Shook.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Justice Hook in 1990, a son, Arnold Shook, a brother, Arvel Shook and a sister, Lily Plott.  Mr. Shook was a member and Deacon of Cornerstone Baptist church.

Surviving Mr. Shook are three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Hoyt Shook of Young Harris, Tommy and Brenda Shook of Young Harris, Bill and Delthia Shook of Young Harris, two daughters and son-in-laws, Earlene and Bud Holcomb of Young Harris, Faye and R.L. Nichols of Young Harris, one brother, Arthur Shook of young Harris, two sisters, Leola smith of Young Harris, Selma Chapman of Acworth, GA, sixteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday May 19, 2006 from the Cornerstone Baptist church with the Rev. Larry Williams, Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Special music was presented by the Benny Shook family and Lynn Shook.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Gary, Frank and Brent Shook, Keith Holcomb, Richard and Bruce Nichols.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bennie Shook, Steve Holloway, Allen Nichols, Tommy Flanagan, Kenny Stroud, Hoyt King and Jerry Hood.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

mr. harold e. greene

 

Harold F. Greene, 74, passed away on May 15th surrounded by his family at Hope Hospice.  He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Frances and his children: Gary (Kathy) Greene, Sue (Dan) Rejko, Joanne (Paul) Poppell, Donna (Dan) Ritter, and Francine Waltman.  He also leaves behind his twelve grandchildren that he adored.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Harold Greene, and his brother Robert.

During Harold’s lifetime, he worked as an electrical contractor until he retired to Young Harris, Georgia.  Most recently, he returned to Cape Coral to be with his children and grandchildren.  He was loved by many and will e dearly missed.

A memorials service for the family was held.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice North at 2430 Diplomat Parkway East, Cape Coral, Florida 33909.

“Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation.”

mrs. paulette west

Mrs.

Surviving Paulette West, age 55, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Monday, May 22, 2006 following an extended illness.  She was born to the late Pal Elemuel and Paralee Callie (Beck) Owenby on August 24, 1950 in Rabun County, GA.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Mike West of Hiawassee, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Lisa West of Hiawassee, GA; brother, Larry Owenby of Hiawassee, GA; sisters, Frances Owens and Patricia Owenby both of Hiawassee, GA; two grandchildren, Caylan and Colton West both of Hiawassee, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Upper Hightower Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Beck and Rev Ricky Burrell officiating.  Music was provided by Nola and Willa Jean Nichols.  Pallpearers were Jimmy, Terry, and Jared Wright, Leon Berrong, Darold Ledford, and Kerry Wilson.  Honorary pallbearers were Josh Owenby, Shannon Burrell, and Robert Buchanan.  Interment was in Upper Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
