Mrs. Ruth Rebecca Smith, age 88, of Young Harris, GA passed away on Wednesday, May 254, 2006 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Jack and Stisey (Berry) Ferguson on May 12 1918 in Towns County.

She is survived by four sons, Mr. Cline Smith, Mr. Fred Smith, Mr. Robert Smith, and Mr. James Smith all of Young Harris, GA; one brother, Mr. John Ferguson of Murphy, NC;  ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday, May 26, 2006 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.  Interment was in Victory Baptist Church Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

ronald douglas “ronnie” cantrell

 

Ronald Douglas “Ronnie” Cantrell, age 58, of Hiawassee, GA, formerly of Snellville, GA, died May 23, 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joy Moore Cantrell; daughter and son-in-law, Nikki Cantrell Walker and Jason of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Brian Douglas Cantrell ;and Mandy of Loganville; Mother, Mary Louise Cantrell of Snellville; Father and Mother-in-Law, Billy and Mae Moore of Snellville; sister, Sherry Lynn Cantrell of Snellville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan and Danny Hud-dleston of Brooks and Jill and Tony Crews of Loganville; grandchildren, Wesley, Ansley, Alexis, and Olivia; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Cantrell, age 1955 graduate of Avondale HIGH School, he was a member of McConnell Baptist Church in Hiawassee and was a former member of Snellville First Baptist Church.  A general contractor in the Atlanta area, he served in the Marine Corp. Reserve from 1970-1976.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and after his retirement he spent his time as a fly fisherman guide on the Hiawassee River.  Ronnie was preceded in death by his father Carl Cantrell.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 27 at 1 p.m. at Snellville First Baptist Church.  Interment Snellville Historical Cemetery.  The family received friends Friday, from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

florence chastain canupp

 

Mrs. Florence Chastain Canupp, age 70, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Friday, May 26, 2006 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late John and Nancy (Arrowood) Chastain on December 12, 1935 in Towns County, GA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Wiley Canupp, parents John and Nancy Chastain, two brothers, Richard and Paul Chastain; two sisters, Cora Kindy and Gorgia Chastain.  She is survived by brothers Devero Chastain, of Hiawassee, GA; Archie Chastain of Hiawassee, GA; Freeman Chastain of Blairsville, GA and Tommy Chastain of Young Harris, GA; one sister, Vada Lee Hughes of young Harris, GA; nieces and nephews, Kal Kindy, Roger Chastain, Tammy Derreberry, Darla Warren, Renee’ Collins, Jennifer Gillispie, Tanya Chastain, Shawn Chastain and Jason Chastain.

Funeral services were held May 28, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Hoyt Allen officiating.  Music was provided by Glen and Sheila Eller.  Pallbearers were Kris Kindy, Todd Kindy, John Kindy, Jason Chastain, James Melton, Marty Johnson, Sammy Hughes and George Edwards.  Interment was in Burch Cemetery.
