alice skelton hunt

 

Mrs. Alice Skelton Hunt, age 65 of Hiawassee, GA (formerly of McDonough, GA), passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA on May 27, 2007 following an extended illness due to kidney disease. She was born to the late Early Newell and Elizabeth Estelle (Phillips) Skelton on August 19, 1941 in Henry County, GA.  She was involved with the Chatuge Regional Hospital Auxiliary and held the office of President on two occasions. She was very active in the Emergency Room and loved the staff.  She was on the Board of the Towns County Lions Club for a period of time and very active in the Lions Club.  She loved her family and her two kitty cats, E.T. and Whiskas.

She is survived by her husband, James Hunt of Hiawassee, GA; brother, Willis Skelton, of Griffin, GA; sisters, Helen Jeffreys, of Jonesboro, GA; Mamie Jeffreys, of Morrow, GA; Sarah Moore and Elon Dodgen, both of Hiawassee; and sister-in-law, Jane Skelton, of McDonough.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from McConnell Memorial Baptist with Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. James Blair officiating. Pallbearers were Glenn Jeffreys, Mickey Gregory, Rick Jeffreys, Mike Jeffreys, Chris Jeffreys, and Scott Dodgen.  Honorary pallbearers were the Towns County Lions Club and Chatuge Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Interment was in East Lawn Cemetery in McDonough, GA.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Chatuge Regional Hospital Emergency Room for new construction of an Isolation Room.

melba reynolds carnes

 

Mrs. Melba Reynolds Carnes, age 82, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2007 following a brief illness.  She was born to the late Cicero and Willie Word Reynolds on July 15, 1924 in Spalding County, GA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam P. Carnes.  She was born and raised in the Atlanta area.  She was a lifetime member of Noah’s Ark Independent Church.  She managed Kent’s Food Market in Jonesboro for many years.  Melba and Sam opened Carnes Big Buy Grocery in Riverdale, GA in 1964.  She retired and moved to Hiawassee, GA in 1999.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Julian and Maggie Carnes of Hiawassee; sister Pauline Hinton of Jonesboro, GA; grandson, John and wife Holly Carnes of Missoula, MT; and great-grandchildren Sam and Andi.

A memorial service is scheduled for Jun 19, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Noah’s Ark in Jonesboro, GA and again on June 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville, NC.  In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to The Missoula International School, 1100 Harrison St., Missoula, MT 59802.
