annie myrl blackwelder roberts

 

Annie Myrl Blackwelder Roberts died peacefully at home June 20, 2004 surrounded by her family.  She was born July 26, 1914 to parents John and Tyus Blackwelder of Roopville, GA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Roberts.  She is the loved mother of seven: Charles Chesnut of Carrollton, GA; Thomas Chesnut of Marietta, GA; Verianne (Chesnut) Palmer of Battle Creek, MI; John (Buck) Mandeville of Yorktowne, VA; Cary Mandeville of Atlanta, GA.  She is also the fond grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of 8, and a wonderful friend to many.  She was the heart and soul of the family.  Nothing made her happier than having her family around her.  She was a strong woman of many abilities, interests and opinions.

In the 50’s she lived in Carrollton and operated the Martha Ann Shop on the square and was a member of the Pilot Club.  Ann loved her mountain home in Hiawassee, GA where she lived for 15 years and was a member of the quilter’s guild.

A memorial service was held at the Presbyterian Church on Maple St in Carrolltown on Friday, June 25, at 2 p.m. Visitation was in the church fellowship hall from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service.  Following the service there was a gathering to scatter her ashes at the Blackwelder-Hearn plot at the Carrollton City Cemetery.

james albert lovell

 

James (better known as Jim) Albert Lovell, age 67, of West Union Road., Young Harris, GA., passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2004 in the Union General Hospital, following an extended illness.  Mr. Lovell was born on May 27, 1937 in Union county, the son of the late Watson Lovell and the late Ruby Barrett Lovell.  He had retired from the Blue Ridge Mountain EMC with over thirty four years of service.  He was a lifelong resident of Union and Towns Counties.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert, Herbert, Ernest and Vaughn Lovell; a sister and brother-in-law, Clarice and J.C. Nichols.  Mr. Lovell was a member of Stephens Masonic Lodge #441 and was a member and Deacon of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Lovell is his loving wife of forty seven years, Vivian Nichols Lovell of young Harris; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Kelly Lovell of young Harris; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie Powell of Young Harris, Alisa and Joffery Richards of Young Harris; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Brenda E. and Junior Burnette of Blairsville, Shirley Lovell of Young Harris, Peggy Garrett of Cleveland; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Waymon and Patricia Lovell of Blairsville, Frank and Sue Lovell of Gainesville, Donald and Debbie Lovell of Niceville, FL; nine grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Shook and Rev. David Berrong officiating.  Special music was presented by Nola and Willy Nichols, Shirley Grizzle, Charlie Fair and Rachell Barns.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Charles Barrett, Richard Nichols, Tommy Lovell, Brian Underwood, Ray Brown, Brent Shook, Carroll Dotson and Jerry Shook.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were: A.J. Silvey, Corky Deavers, Fred Shook, Jimmy Anderson, T.J. Anderson, Buford Duckworth, Kenneth Hall, Earl Roberts and Jackie Sellers.  Members of the Georgia State Patrol along with Towns County officers.  Masonic graveside rites were conducted by Stephens Lodge #441 F&AM.  Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of arrangements.

truman hooper

 

Mr. Truman Hooper, age 88, of Hiawassee, GA., died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in Chatuge Regional Hospital.

Mr. Hooper was born on January 4, 1916 in Towns County, a son of the late Arvil and Valley Joe (Kimsey) Hooper.  He was a member of Enotah Baptist Church.  Mr. Hooper was retired from Lockheed Martin.  He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margie Nicholson in 1995, Stella Hooper and Faye Lunsford, both in 2003; a brother, E.J. Hooper in 1967.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Daniels of Cornelia, GA; son, Ronnie Allen of Cornelia; grandson, Andrew Hardman of Cornelia; great granddaughter, Katie Elizabeth Hardman.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 24, 2004 at Enotah Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Coleman and Rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  Music was by the church choir and Martha Barrett. Pallbearers were Stanley Berry, Andrew Hardman, Bruce Spiva, Larry Nicholson, Billy Nicholson and Vester Barrett.  Honorary Pallbearers were Jim Taylor, Rondall Nicholson, Joe Chastain, Willie Lunsford, Lake Hogsed and Clay Woodring.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

william walter thomas

 

Mr. William Walter Thomas, age 47, of Young Harris, GA., passed away on June 22, 2004.  He was the son of Walter and Martha (Ledbetter) Thomas.  Born on November 28, 1957 in Dallas County, TX., he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Thomas of Young Harris, GA; two sons, William Joseph Thomas and Matthew Sonny Thomas, both of Young Harris, GA; one brother, Robert Thomas, of Eureka Springs, AK; a number of nephews also survive.

Memorial services were held on June 25, 2004 from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Whitley officiating.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.
