raymond keenan

 

Raymond Keenan, 72, of Hayesville, formerly of Hiawassee, GA died Saturday, July 3, 2004 in an Union County hospital.  A native of New Orleans, LA but had been living in this area for the past 20 years.  He was the son of the late Pio and Mary Zulli Bacoli and the husband of the Clara Belle Stuman Keenan, who died October 27, 1994.  He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Marine Corp.  He retired after 30 years as a long haul truck driver with Hennis freight Lines and also was a member of the teamsters union.  Ray was also a member of the Hayesville Church of God.

Surviving are his wife Mary Ledford Barnes Keenan; two daughters, Jeanette Fortenberry and her husband Jerry of Mt. Airy, GA and Teresa Johnson and her husband Oliver of Katie, SC; two stepdaughters, Shelia Clouchete and her husband Russ of Hayesville, and Amanda Brown and her husband, Ross of Hayesville; a stepson Michael Barnes and his wife, Lilly of Marble; three grandsons, Jerry Lee Fortenberry, Jr. Jesse Dakota Fortenberry, and Brandon Johnson; and seven step grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 6 in the chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Jarvis Bennett officiating.  Burial in the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Jerry and Jesse Fortenberry, Russ Clouchete, Ross Brown, and Bill and Denver Ledford.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.

carrie clonts campbell

 

Carrie Clonts Campbell, age 100, of Young Harris, Georgia died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, GA.

Mrs. Campbell was born on October 27, 1903 in Cherokee County, NC.  She was the daughter of the late Gar and Erie Carroll Clonts.  She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sisters, brothers, a daughter, Isadore King; a son, William Pierson “Jr.” Campbell and husband P.R. “Dick” Campbell.

She is the beloved mother of Geneva Matheson and Nora Lea Ferguson, both of Young Harris, Georgia.  Gladys Taylor of Gastonia, NC and Martha Nell Garland of Newnan, Georgia.  She is a also survived by a sister, Nora Bell Harris of Marietta, GA; a brother, Olen Clonts of Andrews, NC; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at the Old Brasstown Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA., where she was a member.  The Rev. Billy Stiles and Rev. Jimmy Rogers will officiate.  Burial was held in the Old Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Billy Dietz, Gary Garland, Rodney Campbell, I.B. Patterson, Dan King and David Smith.  The Honorary Pallbearer was Lloyd Clonts.

Townson Rose Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
