guy hugh puett

 

Mr. Guy Hugh Puett, age 85, of Hiawassee, GA passed away Thursday, July 17, 2003 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.

Mr. Puett was born July 18, 1917, in Towns County, a son of the late John Arthur and Mary Lea (McGaha) Puett.  He was a member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church.  Mr. Puett was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and served in the European Theatre.  He participated in the first wave of the D-Day invasion of Normandy and was present for the Liberation of Paris.  He was active in Towns County Lions Club and Towns County Hospital Authority.  Mr. Puett was Principal of Young Harris Elementary and Brasstown Elementary Schools from 1937 to 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn McAfee Puett of Hiawassee; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jacqueline (Jackie) and Charles R. (Dick) Higdon of Andrews, NC; sister, Nora Lea Westmoreland of Hiawassee; two grandchildren, John R. Higdon and Jim Higdon, both of Andrews, NC; two great grandchildren, Brady Higdon and Alex Higdon, also of Andrews, NC.

Funeral services were held, Sunday, July 20, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Old Brasstown Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating.  Music was provided by a group of former students.  Pallbearers were Terry Roberts, Marty Roberts, Derek Moody, Brent Moody, Rex Norton and Roger Puett.  Honorary Pallbearers were Ernie Gibson, Billy Nelson, Donald Sampson, J.C. Nelson, Earl Roberts, Roy Townsend, George McClure and Chester McClure.  Interment was in the Church Cemetery.

doris e. “betty” murray

 

Mrs. Doris E. “Betty” Murray, age 73, of Sebring, Fl and Hiawassee, GA passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2003 in Lake Placid, Fl.

Mrs. Murray was born October 2, 1929, in Dale County, Alabama.  A daughter of the late James B. and Lera (Hall) Windham.  She moved to Hiawassee in 1982 from Temple Terrace, Fl.  Mrs. Murray was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, a member of the Upper Hightower Fire Department Auxiliary.  She had worked at Towns County Hospital for several years.  Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Fox in 1989.

Survivors are her husband, Paul Murray of Sebring, Fl; children, Mary Ellen Warner of North Wilkesboro, NC, Barbara Elaine Post of Kansas City, KS and Steven Wayne Fox of Leavenworth, KS; step-children, Addie Ruth Moore of Kenly, NC, Louise Taylor of New London, CT, Paul Murray, Jr. and Bill Murray, both of Sebring, Fl; sisters, Jewel Daggett of Ft. Pierce, Fl, Sybil Wirick of Hiawassee, GA, Dorothy Hannah of Lake Placid, Fl, Carolyn Browning of Fruitland Park, Fl, Pat Green of Umatilla, Fl, Eleanor Bigson of Mt. Dora, Fl, JoAnn Miller of Hiawassee, GA, Muriel Jones and Jean Dempsey, both of Umatilla, Fl; brothers, Edward Windham of Leesville, LA and J.L. Windham of Leesburg, Fl; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, 2003 at 10:00 am at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  Music was by Connie Lake.  Pallbearers were Dennis Miles, Jimmy Kimsey, Jerry Nichols, Roy Cole, Doug Nicholson and Roy Robertson.  Interment was in Osborn Cemetery.

riccardo g. bucca

 

Mr. Riccardo G. Bucca, age 49, of Hiawassee, GA passed away Thursday, July 17, 2003 following an extended illness.  Mr. Bucca was born in Pestoria, Italy, the son of the late Joseph and Theiss Bucca.  He was a Chef by profession.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Patti Bucca, of the home; step-daughter, Gina Richardson of North Adams, Massachusetts; step-son, Timothy Richardson of Bradenton, Fla; brother, Anthony Bucca of Saratoga Springs, NY and three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of the Banister Funeral Home.  The Rev. Harold Ledford officiated.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.
