Mr. Guy B. Kelley, age 76, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Kelley was born Thursday, September 25, 1930 in Towns County to the late George B. and Ethel Kirby Kelley.  He was of the Methodist faith, and was retired from Colonial Stores.  Mr. Kelley was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Sharon Kelley.

Survivors include: wife of 58 years, Louise Kelley of Hiawassee, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Karen and Fletcher Ramey of Cleveland, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Dale and Cherie Kelley of Douglasville, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Phillip and Kathy Kelley of Hiawassee, GA; sisters and brothers, Clara and Dale Eller of Chamblee, GA, Joyce and Billy Baker of palmetto, GA, Virginia and Phillip Kimsey of Suwannee, GA, Roger and Louise Kelley of Hiawassee, GA, Colin and Dottie Kelley of Stockbridge, GA, Brenda and Ted Johnson of Hogansville, GA; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

No service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Alzheimers Association

althea jane mcgaha gilbert

 

Mrs. Althea Jane McGaha Gilbert, age 81, of Smyrna Rd., Young Harris, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Gilbert was born on July 21, 1926 in Hayesville, NC, the daughter of the late Jesse McGaha and the late Nellie Meadows McGaha.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebekah Gilbert in 1946; two sisters, Eva Teems and Minnie Shook; three brothers, John, Fred and Earl McGaha.  Mrs. Gilbert was a member of pine Log Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Gilbert are her loving husband of sixty-three years, Carl Gilbert of Young Harris; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Cecil and Christine Gilbert of Blairsville, Bill Gilbert of Blairsville, Eddie Gilbert of Blairsville, Steve and Jennifer Gilbert of Blairsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Sadie McGaha of Young Harris; three grandchildren, Jim Gilbert, Amanda Gilbert Stroud and Anita Gilbert, one great-grandchild, Rodney Stroud; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dexter Dockery and Rev. Jerry Rice officiating.  Special music was presented by a granddaughter and friends.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Keith McGaha, Larry Teems, Rex Dockery, Travis Dockery, Tony Gilbert, Teddy Gilbert and Bud Berrong.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

robert jacob birdsall, sr.

 

Mr. Robert Jacob Birdsall, Sr., 83, of Ocala, FL and Hiawassee, GA, passed away on July 23, 2007 at his residence.  Born in West Palm Beach, FL, Mr. Birdsall was a retired civil engineer, holding a State of Florida contractors license.  Robert served in WWII, European Theatre.  During his contracting career throughout Florida, he served as project manager for residential developments, utility systems, an airport terminal, large condominiums and high rise commercial building, including The First Financial Tower in Tampa.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Birdsall of Ocala, FL and Hiawassee, GA; 3 sons, James C. Birdsall of Juno Beach, FL, Robert J. Birdsall, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL and William D. Birdsall of Ocala, FL; sister, Claire Gardner of Palm Beach, FL; 2 grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Dunnellon, FL.
