beverly amelia nicholson

 

Beverly Amelia Nicholson, age 54, of Hiawassee, GA went to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 7, 2005.  Beverly was born on February 13, 1951 in Fulton County, GA to Walter and Jean Adams.  Her mother, Jean Adams and a brother, Kenneth Adams, precede Beverly in death.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 27 years, Patrick Nicholson; her daughter and son-in-law, Montez and Brad and granddaughter, Kenlee Shook, all of Hiawassee, GA; father, Walter Adams of Jonesboro, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Vickie and Tony Watts of Flovilla, GA; brother, Walter Adams, Jr. of Hartwell, GA.  Also surviving Beverly are her mother and father-in-law, Harold and Simone Nicholson; brother and sister-in-law, Kurt and Diane Nicholson; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Shirley Clinton; brother and sister-in-law Ed and Pat Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Dian Crowder with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  Also surviving Beverly is a very special friend, Wayne Scott.

Beverly’s family wants to extend their heart felt thanks and appreciation to Beverly’s extended family at Always Christmas for all their love and support during this difficult time.

Beverly attended North Mt. Zion Church of God on Scataway Road, Hiawassee, GA.  The family received friends on August 8, 2005 at Banister’s Funeral Home from 6-9.  The funeral was held on August 9, 2005 at North Mt. Zion Church of God at 2 p.m. with Reverend Raburne Wilson officiating.  Interment followed in Burch Cemetery in Hiawassee, GA.  Pallbearers were Kurt Nicholson, Michael Clinton, Ed Williams, Bob Crowder, Christ Clinton and Edward Williams II.

mr. david james walls

 

Mr. David James Walls, age 47, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, August 04, 2005 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  He was born on November 16, 1957 to Jeanette (Barrett) Walls and the late Reuben Walter Walls in Fulton County, GA.  He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Reuben Walls in 1992.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jeanette Walls, of Hiawassee, GA; grandmother, Mrs. Ida Barrett, of Hiawassee, GA; special companion, Ms. Tracy Patterson, of Hayesville, NC; son, James David Walls, of Hiawassee, GA; brothers, Mr. Rex Walls, of Hiawassee, GA; and Mr. Mark Walls, of Buford, GA; sister, Ms. Janice Walls, of Hiawassee, GA; grandchild, Camren Jimmy James Walls; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on August 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mike Jarrett and Rev. Mike Youngblood officiating.  Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Jeff Grindstaff, Jamie Williams, Rusty Parsons, Gene Williams, Richard Ditmore, Tony Haag, Victor Marrone and Jerry Dailey.  Interment was in Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

mrs. shirley h. hensel

 

Mrs. Shirley H. Hensel, age 72, of Gumlog Rd., Young Harris passed away on Monday Aug. 8, 2005 in the North East Ga. Medical Center following a brief illness.  Mrs. Hensel was born on March 20, 1933 in Athens, OH, the daughter of the late Samuel Henderson and the late Erma Thompson Henderson.  She had made her home in Towns County after moving here from Tampa, FL.  Before her retirement she was employed with the Towns County School system.  Mrs. Hensel was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving Mrs. Hensel are her loving husband of twenty-three years, Edward Hensel of Young Harris, one daughter, Chris Brooks of Young Harris, six step children, Edward and Kay Hensel of Gainesville, GL, Douglas Hensel and Christopher Hensel both of IL, Helena Medgebow of Tampa, FL, Regina and Craig Carlton, Blane Hensel all of Tampa, one sister, Betty Butts of Athens, OH, one brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Marriam Henderson of Athens, OH, six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitation at the funeral home was held on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 from 6-8 p.m.  A memorial service will follow at a later date and will be announced.

rev. john willis garrett

 

Rev. John Willis Garrett age 79 of Ingram Road, Young Harris, GA. Passed away on Wednesday August 3, 2005, in the Piedmont Hospital, in Atlanta, GA after sudden illness.

Rev. Garrett was born on June 5, 1926 in Suches, GA to the late Link Garrett and the late Martha Seabolt Garrett.  He was a Preacher of 47 years, a self employed carpenter, and a life long resident of Union and Towns counties.  A member of the New Harmony Baptist Church I Blairsville, GA.

Surviving Rev. Garrett are his loving wife, of Seventeen years Edith Zimmermam Garrett of Young Harris, 5 children Alvin and Elizabeth Garrett, Larry and Bonnie Garrett, Ila Mae and Dorsey Dockery, Arlene Garrett all of Blairsville, GA and Rose Garrett of Cartersville, GQ. Step-children Teresa and Donny Gibson of Blairsville, Timothy and Sherry Ingram of Young Harris, Shirley and Johnny Smith of Blairsville, Shelia Owens of Brasstown, NC, Jeffery Ingram of Gainesville, Sisters, Mae Clark of Gainesville, Beulah Penland of Murryville, Bessie Brown, Shirley Carey, Myrtle Collins, Evelyn and Hubert Shook, Vivian and Bo Conley all of Blairsville Bertha and Joe Powers of Dahlonega, Brother, Jimmy and Jean Garrett of Gainesville, 14 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 from the New Harmony Baptist Church, interment followed in the church cemetery, Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Kenny Beavers officiating.  Music by the New Harmony Choir.  Pallbearers were Alton Garrett, Marshall Gibson, Hogan Guffey, Rodney Carey, Kevin Conley, and Randy Brown.

mrs. norma lee nichols

 

Mrs. Norma Lee Nichols, age 65, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away at her residence.

Mrs. Nichols was born Sunday, November 5, 1939 in Habersham County, GA to the late Dock Nichols and Ila Mae Walls Nichols.  She was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church and a graduate of Young Harris College.  She was preceded in death by sister, Betty Wilson.

Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Gary Deaton of Hiawassee, GA and Melissa and Jerry Brown of Cleveland, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Jack McKay of Lawrenceville, GA, Earnesteen Sharp and Ray Coward of Perrin, TX and Elwanda and Ralph Burrell of Ranger, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Diane Nichols, of TX; granddaughters, Heather Lee Deaton and Mary Mauldin Alexander; grandson, Kevin McClain Alexander; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  Music was provided by Earnesteen Sharp Coward.  Interment was in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery.

mr. george perry atkinson, jr.

 

Mr. George Perry Atkinson, Jr., age 77 of Naples, FL, and Young Harris, GA passed away Sunday, July 31, 2005 in Young Harris.

Mr. Atkinson, Jr. was born Sunday, September 25, 1927 in Fulton County, GA to the late George Perry Atkinson, Sr. and Amie Vary Atkinson.  He was a member of Sharp Memorial Methodist Church and was preceded in death by sister, Francis Gould.

Survivors include: wife, Anne Atkinson of Young Harris, GA, daughter, Fran Johnson of Hendersonville, NC, son and daughter-in-law, John and Jo Atkinson of Naples, FL, daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Skip Flynn of Melrose, FL, son, George B. Atkinson of Naples, FL, grandchild, Barrett Johnson, grandchild and wife, Garrett and Mary Jacqueline Atkinson, grandchild, Elsie Atkinson, grandchild, Courtney Johnson.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darris Baker officiating. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Naples, FL.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Cancer Treatment Center, 750 deep South Farm Road, Blairsville GA 30512.

Mrs. Betty Lee Oliver Andrews, age 72, of Hiawassee, GA passed July 27, 2005 following a period of declining health.  Mrs. Andrews was born in Cobb County, GA to the late Oberon and Lucile Harkins Oliver.  Surviving are brothers: Oberon Olivier, Jr. of Hampton, VA, Vernon Oliver of Hiawassee, GA; sisters: Bobbie Sue Boggs of Hiawassee, GA, Joann Harris of Payton, UT and a number of nieces and nephews.  Memorial services will be held later.   Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge.
