mina lorene atkinson miller

 

Mrs. Mina Lorene Atkinson Miller, age 91, of Jones Gap Rd., Hiawassee, GA passed way on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Miller was born on September 21, 1915 in Hall County, GA, the daughter of the late Diamond C. Atkinson and the late Dollie Johnson Atkinson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis Miller in 1983 and by a sister, Edith Neil Strickland in 2006.  Mrs. Miller was a member of Crescent City Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Miller are one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Robert Mitchell of Atlanta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ryman and Laura Fair of Hampton, GA, Gaines and Nancy Fair of Hiawassee; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 13, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Glen Eller and Rev. Ryman Fair officiating.  Special music was presented by Sheila Eller.  The grandsons served as pallbearers.  Interment and graveside services followed at 2 p.m. from the New Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Hall County.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.

jesse albert gibson

 

Mr. Jesse Albert Gibson, age 56, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007.  Mr. Gibson was born Monday, July 9, 1951 in Towns County, A.  He was a member of upper Bell Creek Full Gospel Church.  He was preceded in death by his father, Winford Gibson, and two brothers, Willie Winston Gibson and William Wilford Gibson.

Survivors include: wife, Martha Gibson of Hiawassee, GA; mother and step-father, Margie and Sammy Johnson of Hiawassee, GA; son, Jesse Gibson, Jr. of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Christy Moody of Hiawassee, GA; sisters, Clara Jo Ledford of Hiawassee, GA, Jeanette Wade of Hiawassee, GA, Geraldine Davenport of Hayesville, NC, Angela Hamilton of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, Christian, Elizabeth Gibson, Waylon Clayton Gibson, and Christina Josie Gibson; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. from the Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. Anthony Dye, officiating.  Music was provided by Ryan Wilson.  Interment was in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Eddie Osborn, Brent Osborn, Brian Osborn, Nolan Parker, Carroll McKinney, and James Goodwin.  Honorary pallbearers were Ricky Wade, Jimmy McKinney, Willie Joe Gibson, Samuel Heath Gibson, and Junior Wade.

john brandon price

 

Mr. John Brandon Price, age 82, of High River Rd., Hiawassee passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. price was born on November 15, 1924 in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Donald John Price and the late Maybelle Brinkworth Price.  He had retired to the tri-state region after a career as an international consultant with the international operations of Ford Motor Company and Oflin Corporation.  He was a veteran of the U.s. Army of WWII European Airborne and was the youngest Army Officer serving in WWII.  He had been living in the Murphy and Hiawassee area since 1969 moving here from Lee County, where he served as Management Analyst for the Lee County Government.  He was a member of MENSA.  In retirement, he has authored poetry columns in newspapers of Florida, North Carolina and Georgia, and published poems in numerous poetry journals.  He loved to dance, and he and his dancing partner, Pennie Hebble taught Ball Room Dancing at Oasis for over six years.  He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Branaman Price in 1988.  Mr. Price attended the Blairsville First United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Price are three sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and Susan price of Cary, NC< Kevin and Deborah Price of Fairfield, CT, Leigh and Julie Price of Sandy Hook, CT; sister-in-law, Jo
Anne Branaman of Murphy, NC; grandchildren, Dave, Michael, Adam, Jeff, Michael, Steven, Lisa, Sara and Jonathon; very special friend and dancing partner Pennie Hebble of Blairsville; nine grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ben Lewis officiating.  Special music will be presented by Keith DeFore and Jeff Bowman.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society in Mr. Price’s memory.
