quentin r. brewer

 

Mr. Quentin R. Brewer, age 87, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2006.

Mr. Brewer was born Tuesday, October 1, 1918 in West N.Y., NJ to the late Ruben Brewer and Teresa Klipper Brewer.  He was a WWII Army Veteran, a honorable life member of the Elks Lodge in Hawaii and a member of Hayesville Church of Christ.  After service in the Army, he was a professional dancer for many years, after which he moved to Honolulu, HI where he was an insurance adjuster and owned a furniture business.

Survivors include: wife, Martha Brewer of Young Harris, GA; step-children, Donna F. Strickland, Debbie f. Yingling, and Dan J. Fagan; 7 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 cousins.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Hayesville Church of Christ with Minister Forrest Chapman officiating.

IN lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regency Hospice of N.E. Georgia, PO Box 494, Hiawassee, GA 30546.

deacon william p. “bill” diehl

 

Deacon William P. “Bill” Diehl, age 72, of Hiawasse, GA, formerly of Springfield, OH passed to his eternal reward at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Diehl was born on June 18, 1934 in Springfield, OH, the son of the late Carl Diehl and the late Roberta Patchell Diehl.  He was preceded in death by his parents and also by his sisters Phoebe Green and Carolyn Rinker.  Deacon Bill was a member and officer of the Plumbers Union 519 and late representative of DCSMEC the Dade County School Board maintenance Employee’s Committee.  Deacon Bill was ordained to the Deaconate in Miami in 1992 and served at Stylus Parish in Miami for four years before retiring to Hiawassee, GA. In 1996.  However his retirement days were short lived.  He resumed his deaconate duties at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Blairsville, GA almost immediately after arriving in Hiawassee.  He and his wife Marie dedicated their lives to helping others, whether they were parishioners or members of the community, all were treated equally.  He visited the sick in their homes, in hospital, or in nursing homes to offer them Holy Communion and comfort during their illness.  At St. Francis he taught RCUA and brought many converts into the Catholic faith.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of Council 11746 from 2000 to 2002.  He was a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order and during his life has been dedicated to the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, where he made several Pilgrimages for prayer and meditation.  He served in the US Navy as medical corpsman during the Korean War.  Although he was no longer a Floridian he was still a very faithful Miami Hurricanes football fan.

Surviving Dean Bill are his loving wife of forty years, Marie, son Robert (Sue), daughter Kelly (Charles) Frasure, granddaughter, Kasey, many nieces and nephews, that loved him dearly.

Funeral services were held on Monday Aug. 14, 2006 at 1 p.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville with Father Richard Wise officiating.  The North GA Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors.  Funeral services were held in Miami on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the St. Louis Catholic Church with interment following in the Woodlawn North cemetery.  In Lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to thee St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church building fund in Blairsville, GA, 2839 Young Harris Hwy. 30512 in memory of Deacon Bill Diehl.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m.

heidi marie wolfe barnard

 

Mrs. Heidi Marie Wolfe Barnard, age 37, of Young Harris, GA, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2006.  She was born to Milton Ross and the late Terri Lynn (Witherow) Wolfe on October 7, 1968 in Montgomery County, OH.  She was previously employed at the USPS, attended college to receive her LPN degree, and currently worked as a server at Brasstown Valley Resort.

She is survived by her husband of eighteen years, Mr. Shane Barnard of Young Harris, GA; daughter, Rachel Caroline Barnard of Young Harris, GA; son Eric Ryan Barnard of Young Harris, GA; brothers, Jason Wolfe of Los Angeles, CA and Jack Keschling of Miamisburg OH; sister, Alexandria Coe Wolfe of Tampa, FL; niece, Lillian Strider; step-mother, Isabella Wolfe of Hayesville, NC, mother and father-in-law, Keith and Jeannette Barnard of Warne, NC.

Memorial services were held on Monday, August 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Herbert Henderson officiating.

jospeh woodrow jackson

 

Mr. Joseph Woodrow Jackson, age 88, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 following a period of declining health.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Esta Jackson in 2005.  He was born to the late William and Dove (Nichols) Jackson on August 15, 1917 in Towns County, GA.

He is survived by a daughter, Gail Ford of Hiawassee, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip & Rita Jackson of Blairsville, GA; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Hogsed and Rev. Charles Abernathy officiating.  Music was provided by Ulysses and Dorothy Sampson.  Pallbearers were Keith Jackson, Derek Jackson, Jason Ford, Kelly Lord, Rex Hogsed, and Curt Dover.  Interment was in Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
