rondal “ronnie” garrett

 

Rondal “Ronnie” Garrett, age 59, of Marietta, GA and Centre, AL, formerly of Hiawassee, GA passed away suddenly Thursday, August 9, 2007 in Centre, AL.  Ronnie was a native of Towns County, GA.  He was born March 18, 1948 to the late Nellie and Daniel Garrett.  He worked in building construction all his life.  He was of the Church of God faith.  Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joel Buel Garrett.

E is survived by his wife, Judy Camp Pilgrim Garrett; two sons, Kenny and wife Tammy Freeman Garrett and Scott and wife Nikki Arrowood Garrett; two stepsons, Tommy and Tony Pilgrim; one brother, David and wife Phyllis Garrett; one sister Kathy Burke Ferguson; two granddaughters, Nicole and Alexis Garrett; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Perry Funeral Home Chapel in Centre, AL with Rev. Eugene Freeman and Rev. Junior Lowman officiating.  Music was furnished by Ryan Wilson and one song by CD selected by his wife, Judy.  Pallbearers were: Bruce Ferguson, Wayne Jones, Gary Thomas, Dave Conrad, Eric Daughtery, and Eric Allsup.  Interment was in Cherokee Memory Gardens in Centre, AL.

Perry Funeral Home in Centre, AL was in charge of arrangements.

rhea kimsey

 

Mrs. Rhea Kimsey, age 89, of Hiawassee, GA passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late John A. and Emily Teem Moore on May 19, 1918 in Towns County, GA.

She is survived by her daughter, June McClure of Hiawassee, GA; sons, John Phillips of Suwanee, GA, Franklin C. Kimsey of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Lawson and Rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  Pallbearers were J.C. Canupp, Rodney Underwood, Buddy Allison, Larry Nicholson, Dennis Mathis, and Bobby Taylor.  Honorary pallbearers were Brad Davis and Brandon Kimsey.  Interment was in Russell Cemetery.

john brandon price

 

Mr. John Brandon Price, age 82, of High River Rd., Hiawassee passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Price was born on November 15, 1924 in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Donald John Price and the late Maybelle Brinkworth Price.  He had retired to the tri-state region after a career as an international consultant with the international operations of Ford Motor Company and Oflin Corporation.  He was a veteran of the U.S. army of WWII European Airborne and was the youngest Army Officer serving in WWII.  He had been living in the Murphy and Hiawassee area since 1989 moving here from Lee County, where he served as management Analyst for the Lee County Government.  He was a member of MENSA.  In retirement, he has authored poetry columns in newspapers of Florida, North Carolina and Georgia, and published poems in numerous poetry journals.  He loved to dance, and he and his dancing partner, Pennie Hebble taught Ball Room Dancing at Oasis for over six years.  He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Branaman Price in 1988.  Mr. Price attended the Blairsville First United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Price are three sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and Susan Price of Cary, NC, Kevin and Deborah Price of Fairfield, CT, Leigh and Julie Price of Sandy Hoot, CT; sister-in-law, JoAnne Branaman of Murphy, NC; grandchildren, Dave, Michael, Adam, Jeff, Michael, Steven, Lisa, Sara and Jonathon; very special friend and dancing partner Pennie Hebble of Blairsville; nine grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ben Lewis officiating.  Special music will be presented by Keith DeFore and Jeff Bowman.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society in Mr. Price’s memory.

savannah mcclure chastain

 

Savannah McClure Chastain, age 89, of Hayesville, NC passed away Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Murphy medical Center Nursing Home in Murphy, NC.  Mrs. Chastain was a native of Towns County, GA and a resident of Hayesville, NC for fifty-three years.  She worked for many years as a seamstress at the Carolina Dress and the Walter Fuller Dress Manufacturing Companies.  Savannah was the oldest member of martin Hill Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC where she taught Sunday School for several years.  Savannah loved taking care of her family and crocheting.  She was a caregiver for her family and her community for many years.  She was a daughter of the late Henry Alexander and America Daniels McClure.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Chastain who died in 1988; a brother, Tom McClure; and her six sisters, Valley Reece, Sarah Burns, Daisy Myers, Mabel Scroggs, Georgia Hoyle and Birdie Evans.

Mrs. Chastain is survived by hr son, Douglas B. Chastain and his wife Carolyn of Hiawassee, GA; two daughters, Eva Ann Henson of Georgia and Daisy Rowland and her husband Harold of Topton, NC; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Townson Rose, Frank Rose, Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC.  The Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiated.  Music was provided by L.D. and Irene Buchanan.  Burial was in the martin Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Hayesville, NC.  Pallbearers were Douglas Johnson, Carl Edwards, Sr., Jerry Cable, Richard Martin, L.D. Buchanan, Willie Nichols, Ralph Myers, Dan Chastain and Freddie Henson.  The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Townson Rose, Frank Rose Sr. memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Savannah McClure Chastain to the Martin Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 316 Dyer Cove Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.

melanie carol hedden

 

Ms. Melanie Carol Hedden, age 40, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Monday, August 13, 2007 at Chatuge Regional hospital.  Ms. Hedden was born Thursday, December 8, 1966 in Towns County.  She was a member of McConnell memorial Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by father, Everett Barrett and sister, Pam Barrett.

Survivors include: mother and step-father, Lounell and Bill Mull of Hiawassee, GA; Jeff Hedden of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Ashley Hedden of Hiawassee, GA; son, Jeremy Hedden of Hiawassee, GA; step-sisters, Patty Burns of Hiawassee, GA, Susan Mull of Hiawassee, Ga.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 12 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Dr. Rudy Patton and Rev. Ken Fuller officiating.  Music was provided by Claudette Griffin.  Interment was in Burch Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Timothy Barrett, Jonathan Barrett, Michael Barrett, Matthew Barrett, Casey Barrett, Eric Barrett.

george wesley mccurdy

 

Mr. George Wesley McCurdy, age 85, of Hiawassee, GA, died Sunday August 12, 2007.  Funeral service were held 11 a.m. on Wednesday August 15, 2007 in the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta, GA with the rev. Tom Elliott officiating.  Burial was in Kennesaw Memorial Cemetery.  Mr. McCurdy worked at Lockheed for 33 years as a security guard.  He served in the Army during WWII.  Mr. McCurdy was former co-owner of Winkenhoffer-McCurdy Funeral Home in Smyrna for 15 years.  He is preceded in death by his first wife, Willonell “Diahn” Green McCurdy.  Mr. McCurdy was a member of Jones Chapel U.M.C. in Danielsville, GA.

Survivors include wife, Bobbie Linn-McCurdy of Hiawassee; two sons & daughters-in-law, Danny & Pamela McCurdy of Woodstock, Barry & Leah McCurdy of Hiram; three daughters & sons-in-law, Diahn & Charlie Brown of Hickory NC, Debra & mark Cochran of Covington, Sheri McCurdy & her fiancée, John Britzki of Hiram; one brother, William McCurdy of Hoschton; one sister, Blondine Andrews of Fort Payne, AL; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and beloved pet, Cissy.

The family received friends Tuesday, August 14, 2007, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta.

Geneva Ledford, age 77, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2007 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Fred and Evie Maney McClure on May 9, 1930 in Clay County, NC.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Ledford.

She is survived by her daughters, Rose Tanner of Young Harris, GA, Lynda Greene of Hiawassee, GA, Mary Jo Young of Blairsville, GA; sons, Eddie Tanner of Blairsville, GA, J.B. Tanner of McDonough, GA; sisters, Ellen Ledford; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with rev. Rayburn Wilson officiating.  Music was provided by Lynn Wilson.  Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church.
