mrs. florence gunning

 

Mrs. Florence Gunning, age 91, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2005 following a brief illness.  She was born to the late William Ray and Mamie B. (Radford) West on November 3, 1913 in Pike County, AL.  She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Green, of Hamilton, NJ; son, Mr. Ralph Gunning, of Chicopee, MA; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Funeral services were held from Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ronnie Coffee officiating.  Pallbearers were men of the church congregation.  Interment was in Macedonia cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

claudine denton ashe

 

Claudine Denton Ashe, 81, of Fletcher, took her last breath on earth, and exhaled in Heaven on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at the Brian Center in Hendersonville following a period of declining health.

She was born in Hiawassee, GA, a daughter of the late Damascus Denton and Minnie Lee Smith Denton and had been an area resident for over 63 years.  She was a member of West Hendersonville Baptist Church where she was active in various church functions and sang in the choir.  Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Hamilton “Ham” Ashe, who died in 1986, and two sisters, Maebell Corn and Georgia Berrong.

A devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Kathy Erwin and her husband Sheriff George H. Erwin, Jr. of Fletcher; a granddaughter Tammy Ashe Lewis of Edneyville; grandson, John Hamilton Ashe and his wife Lisa of Hendersonville; three great-granddaughters, Amber and Brooke Lewis, and Maghen Ashe; one brother, John Denton of Hiawassee, GA; two sisters, Faye Watkins of Fletcher, and her identical twin Willene Owenby of Toccoa, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3 PM, Friday, August 26, 2005 at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel.  The Revs. Ralph Goss and Jerry Willingham officiated.  Burial followed at Shepherd Memorial Park.
