Mrs. Dorothy Garrett, age 82, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Monday, August 23, 2004 at her home.

Mrs. Garrett was born April 13, 1922, in Clay County, NC, a daughter of the late Baxter and Evie (Burell) Lowe, but had lived here all her life.  She was a homemaker and member of North Zion Church of God.

Survivors include: her husband, Paul Garrett of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Sandra Garrett of Hiawassee, GA, and son, Knox Garrett of Hiawassee, GA; sister, Monda Denton of Hiawassee, GA; brother, Troy Lowe of Hayesville, NC; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at 2 p.m. from North Mt. Zion Church of God with Rev. Glen Eller and Rev. Raburne Wilson officiating.  Music was by Glen and Sheila Eller and Doc L. Moreland and the Raburne Wilson Family.  Pallbearers were Rodney Underwood, Edwin Arrowood, Larry Hedden, Bobby beadle, Vernon Oliver, Ronnie Ledford, and Doc L. Moreland.  Burial was in Boyds Chapel Cemetery.

mr. herman rhudy silvey

 

Mr. Herman Rhudy Silvey, age 88, of Hwy. 66 Young Harris, formerly of Fayetteville, TN, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2004 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Silvey was born on February 18, 11916 in Catoosa County, GA, the son of the late James Thomas Silvey and the late Maggie Rhudy Silvey.  He was a veteran of the U.S. navy of WWII.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred c. Silvey in 1967.  He was a former Baptist deacon.  Mr. Silvey attended Old Union Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Silvey are his loving wife of thirty years, Mabel Silvey of Young Harris, two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Debbie Silvey of Fayetteville, TN, Vick and Sue Silvey of Fayetteville, three sisters, Edith Reed, Lucy Mullins and Eunice Bridges all of Ringgold, four grandchildren, Mandy brandy and Tommy Silvey and Christy Blaser, two great grandchildren, Austin and Aaron Blaser, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 30, 2004 at 2 PM from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.    Interment followed in the Chickamauga Cemetery on Tuesday at 11 AM with Pastor Tommy Graham officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Maranatha Baptist Church in Mr. Silvey’s memory.

sarah louise guttery

 

Sarah Louise Guttery, age 86 of Young Harris, GA and formerly of Daytona Beach, FL died Sunday, August 29, 2004 in the Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, NC.

Mrs. Guttery was a native of Olive Hill, KY and the daughter of the late George Washington and Freda Wessel Paynter.  She moved with her family to Daytona Beach, FL in 1920.  She worked for Southern Bell for 35 years as a service order supervisor until her retirement in 1978.  She became a seasonal resident of Towns County, GA in 1983 until permanently settling in Young Harris, GA in 1994.  Mrs. Guttery was of the Methodist faith.

Mrs. Guttery is survived by two sons, Michael M. Guttery and wife, Judy of Young Harris, GA, George Patrick Guttery and wife, Barbara of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Rachael Shroyer, and husband, Gregory of Palm Coast, FL; three granddaughters, Callie Kimball of Washington D.C., Amanda Shroyer of Palm Coast, FL, and Caroline Guttery of Ft. Worth, TX; two nieces; and one nephew.

Funeral services were held 4 PM Monday, August 30, 2004 at the Townson Rose, Frank Rose Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC.  The Rev. Jacob C. Kyker officiated.  A private inurnment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Murphy, NC at a later date.

The family received friends from 3 to 4 PM, Monday, August 30, at the Townson Rose Chapel in Hayesville, NC.
