mary t. ryan

 

Mary T. Ryan, age 91 of Young Harris, Georgia passed away on August 27, 2003 following an extended illness.

She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Hanna Mackey.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws, Sandra and Vernon Perry of Young Harris, Patricia and Allen Mills of Sun City, FL; two sons, Jerry Ryan Jr. of Tampa, FL, and Michael R. Ryan of Bartlett, IL; also surviving one sister, Ruth Campbell of Sandy Hook, CT; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Rudy Patton officiating.  Music provided by the Cheerful Sounds.

ms. marie i. martens

 

Ms. Marie I. Martens, age 78 of Young Harris, GA passed away at her home on Monday, August 11, 2003.

Ms. Martens was born in Essex, Co., MA, September 21, 1924.  She moved to this area in 1997 from Cleveland, OH.  She had worked as a budget analyst for the federal government.  After moving here she worked at the Holiday Inn Express in Hiawassee, and Second Generations.  Ms. Martens was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, NC.

Surviving are three daughters, Carol McEvoy of Tampa, FL, Marilyn and Dick Musser of Burns, OR, and Elizabeth Brinson of Young Harris, GA, two grandsons and their wives, Joshua and Julie Brinson and Jeremiah and Becky Fender, and a great granddaughter, Michaela Madison, also survive.

For those wishing to remember Ms. Martens, the family has suggested that memorials be made to the Mountain Regional Library for the book fund.

william h. (bill) ayer

 

Mr. William H. (Bill) Ayer, age 75, of Hiawassee, GA., passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003 at his home.

Mr. Ayer was born on March 26, 1928, in Erie County, NY, a son of the late William and Carolyn (Zeis) Ayer.  He moved to Hiawassee 25 years ago from Lighthouse, Fl.  Mr. Ayer had been a Hospice volunteer for several years.  He was the first President of the local Humane Society and had been in the wholesale newspaper business.  Mr. Ayer was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Ayer of the home; son, William Ayer of Ft. Dix, NJ; daughters, Susan C. Ayer of Pompano Beach, Fl and Barbara Staley of Chicago, IL; stepsons, David C. Hughes of Honolulu, HI and Joseph H. Hughes of Kingfield, ME; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 1, 2003 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Richard Wise officiating.  Pallbearers were Curtis Shook, Ricky Moss, John Moss, Truman Barrett, Jack Stonebraker, and Joseph Miller.  Interment was in Laurel Hills Cemetery.
