clinton “mac” hooper

 

Mr. Clinton “Mac” Hooper, age 75, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2006, following an extended illness.

Mr. Hooper was born Monday, march 2, 1931 in Cleveland, Tennessee, and moved to Plant City, Florida in 1952 and then to Young Harris, Georgia in 1997.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Clinton Hooper and Anna McIntire Hooper Johnson.  He was employed with The Hillsboro Bank (now Sun Trust) until his retirement in 1991 as a Senior Vice President.  He was very active in civic affairs, some which were as follows: President of Plant City Kiwanis Club; Lt. Governor of District 8 of the FL. Division of Kiwanis International; President of the Plant City Chamber of Commerce; President of the United Fund; served on the Gulf Ridge Boy Scouts of America.  In 1977 he was honored as Citizen of the year of Plant City and in 1978 he was honored with the Jaycee Distinguished Citizen Award.  He served on the Board of the Florida Strawberry Festival and was Treasurer for 25 years.  He was formally a member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Plant City and is presently a member of the Mtn. Presbyterian Church of Blairsville.

Survivors include: wife, of 45 years, Sharon S. Hooper of Young Harris; brother-in-law, Raymond Sipple of Miami, Florida; niece, Anna Brown of Orlando, Florida; nephews, Sam Brown of Orlando, Florida and Wade Brown of Douglasville, Georgia.  Memorial services were held Friday, September 8, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. from the Mtn. Presbyterian Church with Rev. Travis Adams officiating.

abalee lenor ivester

 

Mrs. Abalee Lenor Ivester, age 81, of US Hwy 76 Hiawassee, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 in the North East GA. Medical center following an extended illness.  Mrs. Ivester was born on Jan. 27, 1925 in Union County, the daughter of the late Chester Dockery and the late Lola Henson Dockery.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolen Kenneth Ivester in 2001, and by a brother, Lester Dockery.  She was a life-long member of union and Towns Counties.  She was an avid wood carver and had taught wood carving at the John Campbell Folk School.  One of her favorite past times was crocheting.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.  Everyone who knew her loved her.  Mrs. Ivester was a member of the First Baptist Church of Young Harris.

Surviving Mrs. Ivester are three daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Hugh Berrong of Hiawassee, Pauline and Auldon Tow of Cleveland, GA, Faye and Gerald Horne of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Denver and Norma Dockery of Blairsville, eight grandchildren, Larry Stover, Buck Stover, Terry Stover, Andrea Stover Seabolt, Marty Tow, Marcia Caudill, Robin Collins and Stacey Horne, sixteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at 2 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Lee officiating.  Special music was presented by Olene and Lewis Dyer and Kathy Allen.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Larry, Buck, Terry and Bo Stover, Kenny and Robin Collins, Marty and Stephen Tow, Derek Caudill, Jeremiah and Aaron Deyton.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening after 6 p.m.

carolyn hedden fox

 

Mrs. Carolyn Hedden Fox, age 79 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2006 following an extended illness.  She was born to the late Worth and Ruth (Howell) Hedden on November 27, 1926 in Towns County, GA.  She is survived by her husband, Mr. don Fox of Hiawassee, GA and a sister, Mrs. Willie Wimpey, of Hiawassee, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 11, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with speaker Dick Fielitz officiating.  Pallbearers were Ernest Rice, Bill Ledford, Tim Fox, Rex rice, Sonny Litchfield, and Mike Hogshed.  Interment was in Russell Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

james edward goulding, sr.

 

            Mr. James Edward Goulding, Sr., age 64, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on September 4, 2006 at his home.  He was born to the late Charles and Hilda (Moll) Goulding on November 15, 1941 in Chautauqua County, NY.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda Goulding of Hiawassee, GA; daughters, Mrs. Joy Wood of Brockton, NY, Nicole Lanham and Michelle Golding, both of Hiawassee; son, James Goulding, Jr. of Elmwood, NY; sister, Irene Bentley of Fredonia, NY; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services were held from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Michelle Goulding, c/o Bank of Hiawassee, P.O. Box 68, Hiawassee, GA.

sara e. martin gulick

 

          Mrs. Sara E. martin Gulick, age 81, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2006 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.  She was born to the late James A. and Annie M. (Parham) Martin on June 25, 1925 in Lamar County, GA.  She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Carol and Larry Chandler of Young Harris, GA; daughter, Denise Addair of Phoenix, AZ; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Barbara Glick of uAuburndale, FL; son, Doug Gulick of Lakeland, FL; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services were held in Orlando, FL at a later date.  Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
