Fern Viola Christman, 89 years old of Hiawassee, GA, died Friday, September 2, 2005 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.

She was born Friday, May 5, 1916 in North Dakota.  Daughter of the late Arthur B. Christman and Rith Lillian (Berg) Christman. 

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, Monday, September 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. with Mr. Cornelius Vanderbreggen officiating.

mr. charles j. knopf

 

Mr. Charles J. Knopf, age 90, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 following a period of declining health.  He was born to the late Henry and Margaret (Dougherty) Knopf on December 15, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY.  He moved to the Hiawassee area in 1997, and was a veteran of WWI and served in Guadalcanal for a long period of time.  He was preceded in death by his wife Daisy in 1996.  He is survived by a niece, Pat Eckhardt, of Murphy, NC; and a great niece, Debbie Delevan, of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.  No services are planned at this time, but he will be missed by all his friends and neighbors at Azalea Cove Apartments.

kathryn mcafee puett

 

Kathryn McAfee Puett, 83, of Hiawassee, GA, died Thursday, September 1, 2005 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.

She was born Tuesday, October 4, 1921 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Floyd W. McAfee and Ethel Dyer McAfee.  She was the wife of the late Garnett McAfee.  Kathryn was a member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church and was a graduate of Young Harris Collefe.  She taught at Brasstown School and first grade at Young Harris Elementary School before retiring with 32 years in the Towns County School System.

Surviving are her daughewr & son-in-law, Jackie & Dick Hidgon of Andrews, NC; grandsons, John R. Higdon and Him H. Higdon, both of Andrews, NC; great-grandsons, Brady Higdon and Alex Higdon both of Andrews, NC; sisters-in-law, Loise McAfee of Blairsville, GA, Nora Lea Puett Westmoreland of Hiawassee, GA, Willa Mae Puett of Hiawassee, GA, Gladys Puett of Young Harris, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Old Brasstown Church, Sunday, September 4, 2005 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Ricky McAfee, Jim McAfee, Sean McAfee Akins, Terry Roberts, Marty Roberts and Steve Drake.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Old Brasstown Baptist Church Building Fund.
