mrs. hester e. nelms

 

Mrs. Hester E. Nelms, age 73, of Hayesville, passed away Friday morning, September 12, 2003 at her home.  She was born in Towns County Georgia, but had lived most of her life in Clay County, NC.  Mrs. Nelms was the daughter of the late Barnett and Ollie Nicholson Eller.

Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Nelms; three sisters, Hazel Rhinehardt, Vertie Adams, both of Hiawassee, GA, and Helen Woody of Hayesville, NC, in the Shooting Creek area; one brother, Gilbert Eller of Hiawassee, GA.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 14, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Leonard Mayfield officiated.  Interment followed in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Lawrence Beal, Kenny English, Cecil King, Larry Rumfelt, Paul Mayfield and Paul Hixon.

Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy was in charge of arrangements.

mr. johnny wesley clay

 

Mr. Johnny Wesley Clay, age 82 of Hiawassee, GA passed away September 12, 2003 following a period of declining health.

He was born in Meriwether County, GA on January 1, 1921 to the late Homer Clay and Lizzie Rogers Clay.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Mrs. Billie Clay of Hiawassee, GA; one daughter, Gail Clay of Fayetteville, GA; one brother, Mr. Homer Clay of Concord, GA; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Dunn of Newnan, GA; one granddaughter, Mrs. Beth Gillam; one grandson, Mr. Jacob Clay of Fayetteville, GA; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services for Mr. Johnny Clay will be held at a later time.

Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

norman f. jones, sr.

 

Mr. Norman F. Jones, Sr., age 69 of Hiawassee, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2003 at his home.

Before retiring to Hiawassee, Mr. Jones had lived in Fort Valley, GA for many years.  He worked at Robbins A.F.B. for over 15 years and at Mercer University for over 5 years.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mim Jones of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Lee and D.C. Hull of Hampton, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Norman F., Jr. and Elisa Jones of Orange Park, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Marvin Middleton of Warner Robbins, GA and daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Hardy of Athens, GA; sisters, Virginia Druin of Rochester, NH and Loraine Chagnon of Farmington, NH; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 15, 2003 from Union Hill Methodist Church with Dr. Charles Wilson officiating.  Interment was in the Burch Cemetery.  Graveside Military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.  Pallbearers were K.C. Hull, Michael hardy, Patrick Desper, Jim Kidder, Bob Carr, Byron Jones and Stephen Gregory, Jr.

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.

mr. clarence n. gribble

 

Mr. Clarence Gribble, age 87 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on September 9, 2003 following a period of declining health.

He was born in Towns County, GA to the late Don and Ruth Gribble.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Ethelda Hawkins of Young Harris, Mrs. Barbara Conley of Winter Haven, FL; three brothers, Mr. David Gribble of Gastonia, NC. Mr. Alton Gribble of Hiawassee, GA and Mr. Harold Gribble of Powder Springs, GA; three grandchildren, Linda Ingram, Joyce Moss, and Randy McClure; three great grandchildren, Mandy Taylor, Jade Moss and Jentry Moss ana a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home Rev. Harold Ledford and the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Interment was in the Lower Bell Cemetery.  Pallbearers were: Alden Hunter, Anthony Hunter, Mike Gribble, Joel Gribble, Harold Ingram and Larry Moss.  Music was provided by the Macedonia Choir.
