norma mccollum robinson

 

Mrs. Norma McCollum Robinson, age 94, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on August 28, 2006 following a period of declining health.  She was born on February 27, 1912, the late daughter of John and Rosie (Bates) McCollum in Murray County, GA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Hubert P. Robinson in 1989, as well as sisters, Dorothy Colwell, Elizabeth and Ruth McCollum, ;and a brother, John McCollum, Jr.

She was a Charter President of the Palatka Chapter of the AAUW and a Charter Member of the Towns County AARP.  She was a Director of library Services at St. Johns River Community College in Palatka, FL retiring in 1970.

She is survived by a daughter & son-in-law, Marilyn and Thomas Yorkovitch of Marble, NC; three grandsons, Ronald C. ware, JR., of Cocoa Beach, FL, Richard E. Ware of Miami, FL, and John H. Biedenkapp of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Lowell T. McCollum and a sister, Lois Haddix, both of Berea, KY; five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Berea Cemetery Mausoleum in Berea, KY.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Berea College in Berea, KY, www.berea.onlinecommunity.com.

sara e. martin gulick

 

Mrs. Sara E. martin Gulick, age 81, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2006 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.  She was born to the late James A. and Annie M. (Parham) Martin on June 25, 1925 in Lamar County, GA.  She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Chandler of Young Harris, GA; daughter, Denise Addair of Phoenix, AZ; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Barbara Glick of Auburndale, FL; son, Doug Gulick of Lakeland, FL; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services were held in Orlando, FL at a late date.  Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

vick thomas chastain

 

Vick Thomas Chastain, age 82, of 1491 Indian Mound Road, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at the home of his daughter.  Born in Townes County, GA, he was a son of the late William Carlos and Ethel Dills Chastain.  He worked in the farming and logging industry and attended New prospect Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Tommy Chastain of Belmont, NC, Ricky W. Chastain and wife Kelley of Laurens; six daughters, Thelma Nixon and husband Ted and Peggy Saxson and husband Marty all of Belmont, NC, Shirley Whitlock and husband Swayne of Gastonia, NC, Vicki Weatherford and husband Mike, Debbie Riddle and husband Albert, and Pam Cain and husband Jeff all of Laurens; three step children, Jeannie Harkins and husband Roger and

            Bobby Leopard and wife Gail all of Laurens, and Ray Leopard and wife Mary of Cross Hill; one brother, Carlton Chastain of Union; one sister, Susie Sosebee of Chattanooga, TN; 40 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Frances Oxford and three brothers, Vernon, Arlin, and Willard Chastain.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2006 at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Huckaby with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens in charge of all arrangements.
