jack carroll mckinney

 

            Mr. Jack Carroll McKinney, age 82, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 following an extended illness.  He was born to the late Charles and Lenna (Kendall) McKinney on June 30, 1922 in Towns County, GA.  He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee for many years, a Deacon, Sunday school Supt. & Treasurer, and Training Union Director for a period of time.  He was also active in the building program.  He served in the U.S. Army three years during World War II, and retired from Blue Ridge Mtn. EMC after serving twenty-two years.  He is survived by his wife, Mae Garrett McKinney, Hiawassee, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Carroll & Betty Cabe McKinney, of Hiawassee, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Keith & Brenda Smith McKinney, of Hiawassee, GA; granddaughter & husband, Anisa Tonjee’ & Jason Roberts, of Hayesville, NC; granddaughter & husband Kimbra Leigh & Kris Berrong of Hiawassee, GA; one great grandchild, Elijah Shane Roberts of Hayesville, NC; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.  Funeral services were held at Macedonia Baptist Church at 11 AM on September 16, 2004, with the Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. Davis Lacey officiating.  The Macedonia Church Choir was in charge of the music.  Pallbearers were Bill Kendall, Trannis Miller, Gary Denton, Paul Owenby, Jr., Vaughn Barrett, and Frank Dills.  Honorary pallbearers were J.T. Wilson, Mike Kelley, Jess Gibson, Tommy Daniels, Audie Bradley, Curtis Young, and James Jones.  Interment was in the Macedonia Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

mr. harlie d. moody

 

Mr. Harlie D. Moody, passed away Monday August 30, 2004 at his residence following a period of declining health.  Funeral services were held Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Saint Joan of Ark church in Canton, OH.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Moody was born in Towns County and spent most of his adult life in Canton, OH.  He served in Germany during World war II and retired with 35 years service from Republic Steel in Canton, OH.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Arizona Moody, sisters, hazel and Frances Moody, brothers, Gilmer, Dwight and Daniel Moody.

He is survived by his wife, Wiggi Moody; daughter & son-in-law, Linda and Ray Hartman; brothers Ray Moody, Kenneth Moody and Vodye Moody; sisters, Edna McConnell, Thelma Noblet, Ethelene Harkins and Barbara Hunter; grandsons, Matt Hartman and Mike Steigerfield, and three great grandchildren.

Alexander’s Gateway Chapel Funeral Home of Cleveland in charge of arrangements.

chester ralph worthy

 

Mr. Chester Ralph Worthy, age 74, of Hiawassee, GA passed away Sunday, September 19, 2004 following a period of declining health.  Mr. Worthy was born March 11, 1930 in Thomas County, Georgia the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Hogan) Worthy.  Mr. Worthy was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association, and Grace Community Presbyterian Church.  He was a retired Captain after 25 ½ years from the Georgia State Patrol, having served as Troop B commander of the Northeast Georgia area.  Surviving are his wife Mrs. Jean Hemphill Worthy of the home; daughter Ms. Faye Worthy of Atlanta, GA; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Barbara Worthy of Hiawassee, GA; granddaughters: Claire Worthy and Alexis Worthy both of Hiawassee, GA; sisters: Mae Avery and Vera Williams both of Quitman, GA, Merle Smith of Thomasville, GA and a number of nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at 2 PM from the Grace Community Presbyterian Church of Blairsville, GA with Dr. John Grauley and Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  The family received friends at the funeral Home on Monday evening from 5 PM until 9 PM and at Grace Community Presbyterian Church from 1 PM until 2 PM Tuesday, September 21, 2004.  Interment was in the Osborn Cemetery.  Music was provided by Bobby Sims and the church choir.  Pallbearers were: Herschel Clark, Ashley Corbitt, Butch Godby, Hugh Howell, Matthew Murray and Larry Williams.  Active and retired Georgia Peace Officers served as honorary pallbearers.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
