mr. joshua adam (Josh) martin

 

Mr. Joshua Ada (Josh) Martin, age 20 of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Josh was born Friday, January 4, 1985 in Cordele, GA.  He moved to Hiawassee in 1992 from Unadilla, GA.  Josh was of the Baptist faith.  He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Martin and maternal grandfather, John Scheidegger.

Survivors include: parents, Lee W. and Virginia (Scheidegger) Martin of Hiawassee, GA, daughter, Astrid Willow Marie Martin of Hiawassee, Ga, maternal grandmother, Elizabeth C. Scheidegger of Satellite Beach, FL, sister, Tina Hays of Hiawassee, GA, nephew, Calvin Barefoot, nieces, Nikki Barefoot, Heather White, and Hannah White.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  Graveside services were held in Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla, GA Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 11 a.m.

dr. don c. bursey

 

Dr. Don C. Bursey, age 84 of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Monday, September 26, 2005 at his home.

Dr. Bursey was born Friday, April 29, 1921 in Oxford, AK to the late John Paul and Thelma Jane (Smith) Bursey.  He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years before retiring, having served during WWII, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam.  He moved to Towns County in 1972 and opened his dental practice here.  He was preceded in death by daughter, Donna Shook and a granddaughter, Brooke Milam.

Survivors include: wife, Barbara Bursey of Hiawassee, GA, son, Brett Allan Bursey of Columbia, SC, daughter, Carla Renee Bursey of Hiawassee, GA, daughter, Alisa Diane Bursey of Hiawassee, GA, brother, John Paul Bursey of Little Rock, AK, grandchildren, Joey Shook, Kristy McFalls, Brian Wilson, Cynthia Shook, Blake Shook, and Ashli Parker, great-grandchildren, Jimmy Shook, Dakota Shook, Kayla Shook, Corbin Williams, Braden McFalls, and Jaylyn Milam.

Memorial services will be held Monday, October 10, 2005 at 6 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with eulogies led by Brett Bursey.  Military honors will be given by the North GA Honor Guard.

The family will received friends at the funeral home from 5-6 p.m., Monday, October 10.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Regency Hospice in Dr. Bursey’s memory.

mr. james detling floyd

 

Mr. James Detling Floyd, age 82, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2005 following a period of declining health.  He was born in Orange County, FL on July 13, 1923 to the late Fred & Mary (Detling) Floyd.  He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mrs. Grace Floyd, of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Pamela Tompkins, of Webster, FL; son, Mitchel Floyd, of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, Domini Floyd, of Parkland, FL; Jimmy Tompkins & Sam Tompkins, both of Webster, FL.  A number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

irma eller

 

Irma Eller, 90, of Hayesville, died Thursday (September 29, 2005) in a Murphy hospital.  A native of Towns County, GA, she had lived in Clay County most of her life.  She was the daughter of the late William Albert and Cordie Ann Maney Shook and the wife of the late Odus M. Eller, who died June 6, 2002.  She was a homemaker and a member of Shooting Creek Church of God.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Lyvonne Eller.

Surviving are a daughter, Anna Chapman and husband, Clabe of Woodstock, GA; a sister, Hersie Wilson of Hiawassee, GA; a brother, Floyd Shook of Gainesville, GA; and two grandchildren, Samuel Elle and Amy Ahrens.

Funeral services at 2 PM Saturday (Oct. 1) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Eddie Brewer officiating.  Burial in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Andy, Stan, and Tim Chapman, Tim Dover, Gene Long, and Lamar Wilson.  Honorary pallbearers: Gene Moore and Donald Woodard.

The family requests memorials be made to the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Fred Hogsed, 2496 Clovis Drive, Hiawassee, GA 30546.
