truett “chris” shook

 

Mr. Truett “Chris” Shook, age 75, of Canton, Ohio and formerly of Hiawassee, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003 at his home, following an extended illness.

Mr. Shook was a native of Towns County.  He was a son of the late Thomas and Stella (Eller) Shook.  Mr. Shook had lived in Canton since 1946.  He retired from Timken Co. in 1986 after 40 years.  He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  Mr. Shook loved sports and was a former Basketball Official and Slowpitch Softball Umpire for many years.  Mr. Shook loved the outdoors and truly enjoyed trips to his family farm in the mountains of Hiawassee.

Mr. Shook was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Willard Shook.

Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal (Shook) and Bob Riggie of Kent, Ohio, Carla and John Slagle of Minerva, Ohio and Gina Shook and her fiance’ Vincent Nash of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, Seth and Sydney Slagle of Minerva, Ohio; wonderful long time companion of 24 years, Helen Casto of Canton, Ohio and her children, Brenda Adams, Donna Brothers, Betty Gray, Jan Pettini and Terri Perrenoud, Shelly Kent; brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Faye Shook of Riverdale, GA and Norman and Linda Shook of Duluth, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mozelle Moore and Kathleen Potts, both of Hiawassee, GA., Montine and Bill Kephart of Murphy, NC, and Jewel Jones of Stone Mountain, GA.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee with Rev. Raburne Wilson, Rev. Glen Eller and Brother Harmon Price officiating.  Music was provided by Glen and Sheila Eller and Tim Turpin.  Pallbearers were George Truett Shook, Jeff Hedden, Barry Harper, Thomas Shook, Coy Mayfield and Bryon Harper.  Interment was in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.

ira nelson coleman

 

Mr. Ira Nelson Coleman, age 79 of Hiawassee, GA., passed away September 29, 2003.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lena Coleman of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Terry Lee Brown of Hiawassee, GA; three sons, Mr. Neal Coleman of Sugar Hill, Ga., Mr. Rex Coleman and Mr. Patrick Coleman, both of Hiawassee, GA; three sisters, Clara Hogsed, Lorraine Hicks, both of Hiawassee, GA., and Katherine Bradley of Moline, IL; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Coleman were held on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee with Rev. George Fortner officiating.  Interment was in the Lower Hightower Cemetery.

Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.
