Mr. Earl
A. Fortenberry, age 64, of
Mr.
Fortenberry was born
Survivors
include: daughter & son-in-law, Cathy and Allen Spence of Atlanta;
son
& daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sharon Fortenberry of Concord, North
Carolina; daughter & son-in-law, Sheila and Rodney Collins and son
&
daughter-in-law, Merle and Angie Fortenberry, all of Blairsville;
sisters, Mary
Ruth Garrett, Barbara Ann Everett and Betty Turner, all of Blairsville;
brother, Claxton Fortenberry of Blairsville; 6 grandchildren, several
nieces
and nephews also survive, along with many friends.

David B.
Hinman, age 80 and a day, passed away at
Survivors
include Dorothy, the love of his life for more than 53 years; his
sister Pat
Mitchell of Franklin, NC; four children, James Hinman, Memphis, TN;
Mark; and Gail
(Hinman) Horne, Chattanooga, TN; Michael Hinman, Blairsville, GA; and
Mike and
Susan (Hinman) Griffin, Birmingham, AL; and five grandchildren, Melissa
and
Gregory, Daniela, Jessica, and Madeline.
Retiring
as Director of Security from Alabama Power Company, he established a
Corporate
Security Department to protect company assets and designed a nuclear
power
plant security program to be promulgated by the United States Nuclear
Regulatory Commission. At
Through
his accreditation he received the ASIS “Paul Hansen Award”. Because of his committed endeavors, he was
awarded a Life Membership in ASIS and was the first recipient of the
“David B.
Hinman Award” which continues to be awarded annually by the Birmingham
ASIS
Chapter to upstanding individuals.
IN 1986,
Hinman was appointed Chairman of the Security Committee at the Edison
Electric
Institute where he assisted the North American Electric Reliability
Council in
testimony about security before select members of the U.s. Senate. Hinman was also presented a Life membership
in the Birmingham Chamber where he chaired the CrimeStoppers Committee
for two
years.
Prior to
joining Alabama Power Company he was employed by South Central Bell
Telephone
Company at
He was
truly a gentleman and a scholar in his own right with a passion for
inventing
automated electronics to enhance life.
He loved history, nature, woodworking, and photographing
wildlife. He loved all of his and his
children’s
dogs. He tremendously enjoyed and sang
barbershop music, and spoke humbly of his investigative career fortunes
and
comical mishaps. He was always the
investigator, and creating handy gadgets.
He was a
loving husband who treasured every relationship with his children and
grandchildren. We will always cherish
the memories we have of him.
A sister,
Iris Tellin and brother, Munson Hinman preceded him in death.
In lieu
of flowers, David’s family suggests that contributions be directed to
Hospice
of Chattanooga, national Audubon Society or the Humane Society.
