mrs. hazel hogsed

 

Hazel Hogsed, 89, of Andrews died Friday, October 1, 2004 in an Andrews care facility.  A native of Towns County, GA, she had lived in Cherokee County for most of her life.  She was the daughter of the late David and Laura Wood Kilpatrick and the wife of the late Ralph P. Hogsed, who died in June 1962.  She retired after 26 years as an inspector for Berkshire Knitting Mills.  She was a member of the Andrews United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and she served as secretary of her Sunday School class.  Also, Hazel was a Gray Lady at District Memorial Hospital.

Surviving Are a daughter, Jan Jones of Andrews; two sons, Robert Hogsed and his wife, Brenda of Sylva, NC and David Hogsed and his wife, Jerri of Brevard, NC; a sister, Marie “Maggie” Herring of Dade City, FL; and seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held October 4, 2004, in the Andrews United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Miller officiating.  Burial in the Valleytown Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Lowell Jones, John Brown, Larry Dailey, Scott Sutton, George Postell, and Gary Tatham.

The family requests memorials be made to the Andrews United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall Fund, P.O. Drawer 1310, Andrews, NC 28901.

Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews was in charge of all arrangements.

George Frick

 

Mr. George Frick, age 67, of Young Harris, GA passed away on October 9, 2004 following a brief illness.  He was born to the late Charles and Mary (Kendik) Frick on August 22, 1937 in Gloucester County, NJ.  He was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, and a church custodian.  He enjoyed working in his garden and also enjoyed painting.  He also served in the U.S. Army.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joyce Frick, of Young Harris, GA and Administrative Assistant, Clay county Chamber of Commerce; daughter and son-in-law, Jenifer and Henry Angelopulos, of Warne, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Kelly Frick, of Pittman, NJ; brother, Mr. Charles Frick, of Monticello, FL, mother-in-law, Katheryn Dailey, of Young Harris, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Memorial services were held from Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patty Ryle Clay officiating.  Music was provided by Mary Ann Fox.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

mrs. betty jean ray

 

Mrs. Betty Jean Ray, age 76, of Young Harris, GA, died Monday, October 4, 2004 in Savannah, Tennessee.

Mrs. Ray was born November 12, 1927, in Helena, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Talmadge and Ina Bell Roberts Lindsey.  She was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church and had lived most of her life in Florida before moving to Young Harris 10 years ago.  She was preceded in death by her son, John W. Ray, III; brothers, Paul Lindsey and Buzz Lindsey.

Survivors include: husband, J.W. Ray; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Max Alston of Savannah, TN; granddaughters, Sarah Alston and Lindsey Alston; grandson, John Max Alston; sister, Joann Owens of Starkville, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 7, 2004 at 11 a.m., at McConnell Memorial Baptist church, with Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  Pallbearers were Walter Berg, James Jones, Wayne Sprinkles, Lamar Cockrell, Truett Shook, and Mark Parker.  Interment was in Osborn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McConnell Memorial Baptist church, “Claiming the Vision.”

cordie estel nicholson

 

Cordie E. Nicholson, age 95, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on October 10, 2004 following an extended illness.  She was born to the late Lewis and Pearley (Ramey) Eller on January 15, 1909 in Towns County, GA.  She is survived by a sister, Albie Eller, of Hiawassee, GA; and a nephew and his wife, Ed & Etta Hunnicutt, of Mountain City, GA.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 2 PM from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jarvis Bennett officiating.  Pallbearers were Jeff Eller, Buster Hunnicutt, Guy Eller, Roy Mize, Dennis Mize, and Charles Hunnicutt.  Interment was in Lower Bell Creek Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

hubert ingram

 

Hubert Ingram, age 77, of Ringgold, GA passed away Friday, October 8, 2004.  Hubert was born Monday, June 20, 1927, in Towns Co., GA, the son of the late Lawrence and Fannie Townsend Ingram.

Mr. Ingram was of the Baptist faith.  He was an Army WWII veteran having served in the European Theater of war.  He lived and worked in Manchester, Ohio for many years where he retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. before moving to Ringgold, GA where he lied for the past several years.  He had been preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Gillespie, and his parents.

Survivors include: his wife, Wilma Carpenter Ingram of Ringgold, son, Tom Ingram of Akron, OH, son, Tim Ingram of Stow, OH, son John Hubert Ingram of Daytona Beach, FL, daughter, Karen lee Kanopsic of Cadiz, OH, son Marty Gillespie of Centerville, OH, daughter, Debbie Grosskopf of Tonawanda, NY and sister, Ruth Allison of Blairsville, GA.  Twenty-two grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 11, 2004 at 2 PM from Old Union Baptist Church.  The body lay in state at the church Monday from 1:30 until 2 p.m.  Music was provided by Ulysses & Dorothy Sampson.  Interment followed in Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by North Georgia Honor Guard.  Serving as pallbearers were: Tom Ingram, Tim Ingram John Ingram, Marty Gillespie, Tom Grosskopf and Warren Carpenter.  The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. Mrs. Louise McClure Stephens, age 86, of Young Harris, GA passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2004 following an extended illness.  She was born to the late James and Edna (Caldwell) McClure on January 13, 1918 in Towns County, GA.  She is survived by her husband, Mr. Ralph Stephens, of Young Harris, GA; daughter, Mrs. Helen Hogsed, of Young Harris, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Wilma and Junior Youngblood, of Young Harris, GA; sons, Mr. J.D. Stephens, and Mike Stephens, both of Young Harris, GA; one brother, Mr. Edward McClure, of Carlisle, PA; three grandchildren, Scott and Steve Youngblood and Greg Robertson, four great grandchildren, Patrick, Alec, and Hannah Young blood and Mira Stephens.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 4 PM from Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Lester Sutton, Rev. Jimmy Rogers, and Rev. Jimmy Hogsed officiating.  Music was provided by Ulysses and Dorothy Sampson and the church choir.  Pallbearers were Scott Youngblood, Steve Youngblood, Stacy Stephens, Greg Robertson, Dexter Shook, Watson Stephens, and Clarence Collins.  Interment was in Old Union cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
