emugene rose whitman calkins

 

Mrs. Emugene Rose Whitman Calkins, age 90, of Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, passed away Friday, October 10, 2003.

Mrs. Calkins was a native of Seattle, Washington and was the widow of the late James Edwin Calkins.  Mrs. Calkins had worked as a medical transcriptionist.

Survivors locally include a son, Douglas Calkins, of Blairsville.

No funeral services are planned at this time.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

mr. arnold franklin keys

 

Mr. Arnold Franklin Keys, age 84, of Young Harris, GA passed away on October 5, 2003 following a period of declining health.

He was born to the late Bascom and Lelia (Kerby) Keys on January 25, 1919 in Towns County, GA.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Minnie Keys of the home; one daughter, Gail and Ben Spurr of Fort Worth, TX; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Peggy Keys of Young Harris, GA; one sister and brother-in-law, May And Millard Dailey also of Young Harris; six grandchildren, Jessica Keys Young, Tiffany Keys, Brittany Keys, Amanda Spurr Arenivar, Alecia Spurr Keys and Monica Spurr; two step-grandchildren, A.J. Arenivar and Destiny Arenivar; four great grandchildren, Alexis Arenivar, Adrianna Arenivar, Haley Spurr and Jaycelin Young, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 7, 2003 Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Senator Zell Miller delivered the eulogy.  Pallbearers were: Eugene Kuykendall, Glen Hamby, Sam Nichols, Jerry Hood, Hart Ramm, and Clint Hobbs.  Honorary pallbearers were: Bob Huggins, Tommy Daniels, Robert Howell, Rick Robinson, David Sellers, and Clinton Collins.  Interment was in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  Rev. John Kay delivered the graveside service and the North Georgia Honor Guard provided the Military graveside service.

bertha floy hughes

 

Mrs. Bertha Floy Hughes, age 87, of Young Harris, GA passed away on October 8, 2003 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late John and Josie Hunter on June 1, 1916.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Grady Hughes and one daughter, Mrs. Betty Shook.  She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Flora Knight, Ms. Jean Hughes, both of Young Harris; sons, Mr. James Hughes of Cleveland, TN and Mr. Edward Hughes of Piedmont, SC; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes were held Friday, October 10, 2003 at 2:00 PM from Old Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Interment was also in the Old Union Baptist church Cemetery.

Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.
