lloyd anton hundley

Lloyd Anton Hundley, age 97 of Young Harris, GA, died on October 9, 2008 in Young Harris, GA.  Lloyd was born in Rago, KS, on September 2, 1911, to Clara and Wilson Scott Hundley, who was a section repair foreman for the Sante Fe Railroad.

In 1928 he graduated from Spivey High School, began at Friends University on a football scholarship until he broke his ankle, worked various jobs including Friends Wool and Hide Co., and then married Esther Friend of Spivey on September 7,1935, in Eldorado, KS.  Two weeks later they moved to south Florida and very successfully farmed winter vegetables for forty-five years while living in Pahokee on beautiful Lake Okeechobee in western Palm Beach County.

In 1980, Lloyd and his wife moved to the north Georgia mountains at Young Harris.  He was a committed Christian who served many administrative and stewardship roles in his local church.  In 1990, Lloyd and Marie lovingly donated a German-built tracker pipe organ to their local United Methodist church for the glory of God.  Lloyd was an avid golfer who played weekly the Chatuge course and made three hole-in-ones in his fifty years of golf.  He enjoyed growing roses and a vegetable garden and sharing the produce with all his neighbors.

A memorial service was held at Sharp memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris, GA, on Sunday, October 12 at 2 PM.  His cremated ashes will be scattered over lake Okeechobee, FL.

Lloyd is survived by two sons: John Lloyd of North palm Beach, FL; and Wayne Scott of Young Harris GA; and by four beloved grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 66, Young Harris, GA 30582.
