charles newbern petty

 

Mr. Charles Newbern Petty, age 79 of Hiawassee, Georgia, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006 at his home.  Mr. Petty was born Sunday, November 7, 1926 in Dekalb County, Georgia, to the late Charles Ogene Petty and the late Ineva Newbern Petty.  Mr. Petty was a member of the Hiawassee United Methodist Church.  He was a WWII navy Veteran and a member of Clarkson Masonic Lodge, F&AM.  Charles had worked for many years in Marietta for the Lockheed Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Zelma Dixon Petty of Hiawassee; daughter, Charlain Cracium of Hiawassee; son, Charles Petty of Harrisburg, Arkansas and daughter, Jan Bingham of Hiawassee.  Seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 16th 2006 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating. Music was provided by Lori Blount.  Interment followed in laurel Hills memorial Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: John Ashe, Bill Potts, Tony Turpin, Ronnie Culp, L.G. Hamilton, and Leslie Bishop.  Serving as honorary pallbearers was Kenneth Culp.

Friends called at the funeral home Sunday, October 15th after 12:00 Noon; and the family met with friends from 6 until 8 PM.
