Mr. James
Arnold “Slim” Jones, age 85, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Jones was born on August 27,
1925 in Blairsville, Georgia, a son of the late Zelve Jones and the
late Carrie
Rhodes Jones. He was a Smelter for the
Tennessee Cooper Company and attended Young Cane Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents; a
daughter, Sandra Gayle Murphy; and grandsons, Craig Jones and Josh
Jones.
Surviving family members include his
wife, Billie Jones of Blairsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Ranny and
Claudia
Jones of Blairsville and Gary and Sheila Jones of Blairsville;
granddaughter,
Audra Brys; grandsons, Shannon Jones, Travis Jones, and Joey Jones;
great
granddaughters, Ashley Jones, Libby Jones and Samantha Jones; great
grandsons, Craig
Jones, Austin Brys, Cole Jones and Tyler Jones; and a great-great
granddaughter
Jozie Jones.
Funeral services were held Friday,
October 22, 2010, at 4 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of
Blairsville, with Rev. Randolph Jones, Rev. Terrell Jones, and Rev.
William
Sissom officiating. Special music was
provided by Howard and Austin Brys and also Casey and Brit Jones. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Shannon Jones, Travis Jones, Joey Jones, Craig Jones, Chad
Sissom
and Jamie Lunsford. Interment was in
Liberty Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home was held on Thursday, October 21,
2010
with the family meeting with friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Ms.
Gladys Patterson, age 77, of Blue Ridge
formerly of Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2010,
following
an extended illness. Ms. Patterson was
born on March 8, 1933 in Union County, GA.
The daughter of the late Doyle Patterson and the late Atha Raper
Patterson. She was a life long resident
of Union County. She was preceded in
death by a sister Irene Beavers. Ms.
Patterson was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving Ms. Paterson (sic) are two
sisters, Annie Davis of Blue Ridge, Rosamae Sparks of Dallas, GA. Two brothers and a sister-in-law Clinton and
Brenda Patterson of Blairsville, Clifton Patterson of Blue ridge. Several nieces and nephews, many other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM
Friday, October 22, 2010, from Mountain View Chapel with the Rev.
Luther Thomas
and Rev. Clifton Patterson officiating.
Special music was presented by Luther Thomas.
Pallbearers were Jamey Patterson, Robby
Patterson, Steve Ware, junior Hunter, Doug Patterson and Daryl Emmons. Interment followed in Zion Hill Baptist
Church Cemetery.

Mr. Don
Michael Lance, age 52, of
Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in the Union
General
Hospital following a brief illness. Mr.
Lance
was born on Sept. 21, 1958 in Atlanta, GA, the son of Don Ray Lance and
Ruenelle Head Lance. He was a veteran of
the US Navy. He was a lifelong resident
of Union County and Atlanta. Mike enjoyed
hunting, fishing, boating and camping.
He loved to talk, joke and make everyone laugh.
He had a natural talent for pencil and ink
drawing. Mike could design and build
just about anything out of wood. He
loved being around family and friends.
Mike was a member of the Galilean Baptist Church of Norcross and
attended the Harmony Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving Mike are his fiancée,
Nancy Smith of Blairsville, mother and step-father, Ruenelle and Benny
Allen of
Blairsville, father and step-mother, Don Ray and Doris Lance of Hiram,
GA,
three children, Amber Robinson of Blairsville, Ashley Schurtz of
Atlanta, Shane
Lance of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Aleah Brown and Donavin
Clark-Martin,
two nieces, Kelly and Laura Jordan, uncle and aunt, Bob and Carol Head
of
Blairsville, several cousins, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday,
Oct. 26, 2010 from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer
officiating. Special music was presented
by Ricky Davenport. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers, Danny Everett, Pat Snow, Bruce Meeker,
Jim
Williams, Chris Churchill, Mike Gowder and Randy Meeker.
Interment followed in the Union Memory
Gardens Cemetery. The family met with
friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
Reeva Lois Potts, age 76, of Plott Town
Rd., Young Harris, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 following an
extended illness. Mrs. Potts was born on
Jan. 13, 1934 in Union County, the daughter of the late James Hayes
Souther and
the late Frances Etta Ensley Souther.
She was a lifelong resident of Towns County.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. Reeva was preceded in
death by her husband, Hobert Potts, a daughter, Vickie Ensley,
grandson, David
Lovell and by three brothers, Raleigh, Raymond and Ronald Souther. Mrs. Potts attended Old Union Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Potts are three
daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Richard Postell of Murphy,
Beverly and
Bill Hampton of Young Harris, Debbie and Donald Lovell of Free Port,
FL, seven
grandchildren, Holly, Jessi, Becky, Jacob, Josh, Travis and Hannah, two
great-grandchildren, Makayla and Jason, many other relatives and
friends also
survive.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday,
Oct. 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Old Union Baptist Church with the Rev.
L.B.
Adams and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.
Mrs. Potts lay in state at the church on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m.
The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Travis Postell, Jacob
Lovell, Josh
Lovell, Chris Krout, Junior Ensley and Bill Hampton.
Interment followed in the Old Union Church
Cemetery. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Mrs.
Susan Marie Killian, age 52, of Hwy 515, Blairsville, passed away on
Wednesday,
October 20, 2010 in Centre, AL, following an extended illness. Mrs. Killian was born on Dec. 13, 1957 in
Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Howard Dawkins and the late Cindy
Chandler
Dawkins. She had made her home in
Blairsville after moving here from Rossville in 1991.
She was a loving wife, mother and sister. Mrs.
Killian was a member of the Harvest
Fellowship Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Killian are her
husband, Charles Killian of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law,
Chris and
Janet Felder of Hubert, NC, one sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and
Clay
Williams of Centre, AL, two brothers, Clarence Dawkins of Prattville,
AL,
Stephen Baugh of Ringold, GA, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
A
memorial service will be held at a
later date and will be announced. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be

the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Killian.

Mrs.
Georgia Rosa Griggs, age 76, of Ivy Log Rd., Blairsville, passed away
on Sunday
October 24, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following an extended
illness. Mrs. Griggs was born on Jan. 9,
1934 in Union
County, the daughter of the late Jesse James Thomas and the late Maggie
A.
Stephens Thomas. Georgia loved reading,
crotcheting (sic) and crossword puzzles. She
was a loving mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and was a friend to many. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Jack Griggs in 1994, two
brothers,
Grady Thomas and Charles (Mutt) Thomas, three sisters, Emma Lee
Clayton, Edna
Vea King and Ruth Nix. Mrs. Griggs was a
member of Revival Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Griggs are two daughters and one son-in-law, Alwayne and Rev.
Kenny
Beavers of Young Harris, Lucille Griggs of Blairsville, one son, Johnny
Griggs
of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Mike and Amanda Townson, Zack and
Amber
Beavers, two great grandchildren, Zane and Zoey Townson, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday Oct. 26, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Special
music was presented by the Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Church Choir. The
following gentleman served as pallbearers, Neal Griggs, Junior Griggs,
Clayton
Ramsey, Michael Townson, Zack Beavers and Roy Griggs. Interment
followed in the Ebenezer Baptist
Church Cemetery. The family met with

Mrs. Inez
R. Harbin,
age 96, of Blairsville, GA passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010 at
Union
County Nursing Home. Mrs. Harbin was
born April 13, 1914 in Newton County, Georgia, the daughter of the late
Joseph
H. Richardson and the late Martha Cason Richardson. During
World War II, Mrs. Harbin worked at
the Naval Ordinance Plant in Macon, Georgia.
After the war she worked at Happ Brothers and the Macon Shirt
Company. She later returned to civil
service and
retired from Warner Robins air Force Base in 1958.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Ernest H. Harbin, in 1996. Mrs. Harbin
was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.
Mrs.
Harbin was a
wonderful, loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her three
children
and their spouses, John R. Harbin and his wife Mary Ann of Macon,
Georgia; Mrs.
Merrill (Merry) H. Smith and her husband Gene of Blairsville, Georgia
and Larry
W. Harbin and his wife Janet of Eatonton, Georgia.
10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and
16 great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were
held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 11 a.m., from Cochran Funeral Home
of
Blairsville with Dr. Fred Lodge of First Baptist Church officiating. Special music was provided by Mr. Jack Dippel
and grandson Wendell Smith. The family
received friends Tuesday night at the funeral home, from 6 until 8 p.m. Graveside services were held Thursday,
October 28, 2010 at 1 p.m., at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery in Macon.
