mrs. gloria elizabeth cole dann

 

Mrs. Gloria Elizabeth Cold Dann, age 85, of Young Harris, GA, passed away suddenly at her home on October 23, 2006.  She was born to the late Carl Walter and Goldie May Heywood Cole on September 27, 1921 in Cooke County, IL.  She was a world renowned China painter.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Andrew E. Dann, Sr. of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Barbara Dann, Jr. of Warne, NC and Carl and Mary Dann of Athens, GA; sister, Franella Sidebottom of Miami Springs, FL; grandchildren, Carl Pittman Dann, Jr., James Andrew Dann, David Edward Dann, Andrea Lenore Dann, Gloria Renee’ Meadows, and Andrew Dann III; step-grandchildren, Kevin Mm. and Todd R. Fernandez; seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Tom Newman officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org or by telephoning at 1-800-342-2383.

lylvia jean mauney

 

Lylvia Jean Mauney, age 52 of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Habersham County medical Center.

Lylvia was born Saturday, January 23, 1954 in Habersham County, Georgia to the late Joseph Thompson and Sophie Holmes Thompson.  She was preceded in death by sister, Jennifer Harrell and brother, James Hottum.

Survivors include: companion, Tim Collns of Hiawassee, GA, daughter, Haley Wayne of Clayton, GA, son, Tommy Trotter of Cullman, AL, sister, Sylvia Wheeler of Demorest, GA, sister, Sharon Wheeler of Hiawassee, GA, brother, Andrew Hottum of Hiawassee, six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 6:00 P.M. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Wheeler officiating.  Music will be provided by Nathan Wayne, Kenny and Sam Collins.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

carl william cloer

 

Mr.  Carl William Cloer, age 77 of Young Harris GA, passed away Friday, October 27, 2006 at his residence, after a period of declining health.

Mr. Cloer was born Monday, February 4, 1929 in Towns County, Georgia to the late Wiley Cloer and Bessie Ann Tatham Cloer.  He was a member of Woods Grove Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman for the Building Committee and proudly served as Chairman of the Towns County Water Authority for 30 years working with several Commissioners.  He was a graduate of Towns County High School and Chicago Electrical School in Chicago, IL.  He came from along line of skilled craftsman and was the youngest job supervisor in the history of Smith and Jones Construction Company.  His building ranged from schools in Atlanta, residential homes to custom furniture, which includes over 139 rolltop desk and 100 waterwheels, including the 16 foot wheel at the Georgia Mountain Fair.  Each project was built with love and pride with his craftsmanship.  He was preceded in death by younger brother, George H. Cloer.

Survivors include: wife, Betty Ruth Barnard Cloer, daughter, Debby Patterson, daughter & son-in-law, Kathy and David Dills, daughter, Carla Cloer, all of young Harris, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Joy and Rick Miller, of Anderson, SC, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Margaret Cloer of Atlanta, GA, sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Nick Norwood of pearl, MS, grandchildren, Chris Patterson, Melissa Cameron, Stuart Miller and JoAnna Miller, great-grandchildren, Katelyn Patterson, Jacob Patterson, Caroline Cameron, Anna Kate Waters, Tanner Cameron and Jessica Cameron, aunt, Jessie Bradshaw, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Burch, Rev. Daryl Dale and Rev. Melvin Wise officiating.  Music was provided by North Mt. Zion Singers.  Interment was in Woods Grove Baptist Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Stan Johnson, Cameron Dayton, Jerry Nichols, Jay Chastain, Jr., grandsons, Chris Patterson and Stuart Miller.  Honorary pallbearers were: Charles Cory, Charles West, Jerry Bradshaw, J.D. Ledford, and Cecil Dye.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Woods Grove Baptist Cemetery Fund, 2224 State Hwy 17, Young Harris, GA 30582.

vance david free

 

Mr. Vance David Free, age 57, of Thomason Rd., Young Harris, passed away on Tuesday, Oct 24, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Free was born on April 22, 1949 in Clayton, GA, the son of the late William (Bill) Free and the late Frances Brock Free.  He was an Industrial painter by trade.  He was a veteran of the US Army of the Vietnam War, for which he received a Purple Heart.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Free in 1977.  Mr. Free was a member of the Gumlog Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Free are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Saben Scott and Brooke Free of Ranlo, NC, Lonnie Dales Moses of Clover, SC, one brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Emma Free of Warne, NC, four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Katie and Denny Childers of Casa Grande, AZ, Abigail and Billy Pope of Bessemer City, NC, Ruby Dowdle of Charlotte, NC, special family, Hal and Pat Phillips of Young Harris, three grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Marcus Bramlett Cemetery in Clayton, GA with the Rev. Thomas Teems officiating.  Military honors were presented by the Clayton Honor Guard.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Gumlog Baptist Church or to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee in Mr. Free’s memory.
