mr. john e. tomlinson

 

Mr. John E. Tomlinson, age 69, of Chatuge Circle, Hiawassee, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Tomlinson was born on may 29, 1936 in Brunswick GA, the son of the late John E. Tomlinson Sr. and the late Bessie James Tomlinson.  He graduated from Southern Technical College and retired after thirty-four years as a Bridge Engineer for the Georgia State Department of Transportation.  He lived for many years in College Park, GA, then retired and moved to the beautiful mountains in North Georgia, in Hiawassee on Lake Chatuge.  He enjoyed bowling with several bowling leagues for several years in Blairsville and has many bowling friends.  John loved his church at St. Francis of Assisi where he was a member, and also was an Usher and Eucharistic Minister.

Surviving Mr. Tomlinson are his loving wife of forty-eight years, Pat Tomlinson of Hiawassee.  Two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah Weatherly of Murphy, NC, Julie and Alan Keling of Hayesville, one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Gail Tomlinson of Miami, FL, one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bill Seidel of Titusville, FL, five grandchildren, Teresa, Kevin, Rachael, Sarah and Brooke, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005 at 12 p.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Richard Wise officiating.  Interment followed in St. Clare’s Columbarium.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family request that memorials may be made to Georgia Mountain Hospice, 70 Caring Way Jasper, GA 30143 in Mr. Tomlinson’s memory.

mrs. sharon renee owenby

 

Mrs. Sharon Renee Owenby, age 42, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2005.

Mrs. Owenby was born Thursday, April 18, 1963 in Summit Co., OH to Leon Ramey and Dorothy (Reynolds) Ramey of Young Harris, GA.

Survivors in addition to her parents are, husband, Bobby Owenby of Gainesville, GA; daughter, Kayla Michelle Owenby of Young Harris, GA; son Robert Dylan Owenby of Young Harris, GA; brother, Terry Ramey of Jonesboro, GA.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the North Mt. Zion Church of god with the Rev. Raburne Wilson officiating.  Music was provided by Ryan Wilson.  Interment was in Old Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Steve Coleman, Roger Owenby, Reggie Register, Tommy Matheson, Mike Hamilton, Greg Oliver, Terry Roberts, Marty Roberts.

mr. jonathon “jack” justus

 

Mr. Jonathon “Jack” Justus, age 68, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2005 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Justus was born Friday, April 16, 1937 in Sarasota County, Florida, to the late Benson Justus and the late Olive Saunders Justus.  Mr. Justus was a member of Bee Ridge Baptist Church in Sarasota.  He retired from Florida Power and Light after 38 years of service.

Survivors include: wife, Mary Anne Justus of Hiawassee, Georgia; daughter, Vicki Justus LaGasse of Hiawassee, Georgia; daughter, Diana Justus Brewster of Sarasota, Florida; daughter, Gina Justus Kennedy of Blairsville, Georgia; and sister, Peggy Winters of Sarasota, Florida.  Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services were held Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Osprey Cemetery in Sarasota with Dr. Robert Soloman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, % Sue Upchurch, 4344 Mulkey Gap Road, Blairsville, Georgia 30512.

james harvey bass

 

Mr. James Harvey Bass, age 77, of Young Harris, Georgia, formerly of Albany, Georgia, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Bass was born Wednesday, may 2, 1928 in Thomas County, Georgia, to the late Wesley Bass and Della Parker Bass.  He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church and the Lions Club of Hiawassee, Georgia, and was an U.S. Army Veteran.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, LaNaette Bass, who died in 1994.

Survivors include: wife, Ruby Watson Bass of Young Harris, Georgia; daughter, Marsha Buchanan of Albany, Georgia; son, Gregory P. Watson of Suwanee, Georgia; daughter, Connie W. Turner of Jonesboro, Georgia; grandsons, Jeffrey Buchanan of Lee County Georgia; and Jason Buchanan of Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandson, Jackson Buchanan of lee County, Georgia; brother, Leroy Bass of Tifton, Georgia; sister, Lillie Pearl Whittington of Moultrie, Georgia.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 31, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Hall and Hall Funeral Home Chapel in Albany, with the Rev. J.B. Redd officiating.  Interment followed in Floral Memory Gardens.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 3-5, Sunday, October 30.
