frances b. carmean

Mrs. Frances B. Carmean passed away October 28, 2003 at her home.  Ninety years ago on July 14th, Frances began her life as one of six children in Carlisle, Arkansas.  Her family moved to Flint, Michigan when she was a teenager.  She attended Northwestern University as a business major and worked in New York City and Philadelphia.  She married and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she raised her two devoted daughters, Bonnie and Paula Berkeley.  As a real estate agent she received many awards of recognition.

In her 50’s she moved to Cocoa Beach and worked at Patrick AFB as a Civil Secretary.  She met and married the love her life, Myrlon Carmean.  They have spent the last 30 years together as a loving and remarkable couple.  Merle and Frances enjoyed life on the Banana River for several years before finding their beautiful land on a creek near Hiawassee.  That turned out to be the “Blueberry patch’, where many dear friendships grew out of sharing the fruits of their land with others.

In 1990, they bought the cornfield next door and transformed in into “Carmean’s Woods”, planting a magical forest along with organic vegetable and flower gardens.  Their grandson, Alex Lambert, spent part of every summer with them.

Frances loved so many, with a rare purity of spirit.  She was a hiker, camper, swimmer and had a great laugh.  Frances appreciated the arts as well as adventure.  She revered nature and never stopped marveling at its gifts of beauty.  Her enthusiasm was boundless and her spirit strong and honorable.

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.
